If any of you here had the intelligence to call back that number you would've realized that it is indeed Bank of America!I too got a W9 request letter. Because of all the scams and money laundering new laws require that a physical address to be on file with your bank account.This is not a scam this is absolutely a legit phone call!
They have called several times using a restricted number and other numbers of suspect and numbers listed unavailable. Found one with message to call 877-488-7842 with an account number I can't make out to their legal dept, because a complaint was being filed. If they have a complaint and have my cell number they must send something in writing and can find my mailing or email address..I and we, can see and make out what it is. This to me is a scam or very unprofessional people.
Got a voicemail from this number today. Claimed to be BofA Compliance Unit calling about an urgent matter. The name they requested to speak with is my mother who has been deceased for almost 12 years. Clearly they have no urgent matter regarding a long-deceased person. Scammers.
Same as above , I do have BOA accounts but I checked and they are all fine and current. I will not be calling back.
Just got one today from these scammers. I'm on hold with BoA to report to them as well as report unwanted calls.
Received official sounding call asking to verify account info. They couldn't verify any detail they should have on file.
Got the call, reported it to BofA fraud. They asked to confirm my account info and started with asking for my security code. *BUZZ* fraud!
Turns out it really was Bank of America trying to verify some information they had on file. I didn't answer this number but contacted BofA via a known good number and asked if they had a Compliance Dept. Transferred to same, which already had my "control number" based on my acct info. Verified DOB and that's it. As with everyone on this page I don't trust unsolicited calls like this, but this checked out.
