Two calls so far today, but has been calling off and on for months. An obvious scam. It is NOT Wells Fargo calling and this has been verified by Wells Fargo fraud department. The caller ID comes in as "Unavailable" which indicates the number is spoofed. I now have the number blocked but recall that the first time I did answer, it was the "your computer is sending viruses" scam from someone with a heavy "India" like accent.
This number appears on repeated monthly written communication using Wells Fargo letterhead. The claim is that overdrafts have been made, with account number suffixes listed that do not happen to match the recipient. The letter appears to be baiting the victim to call the number, where I assume that the victim will be socially engineered to yield personal information, probably their correct account number among other PII. These letters are aimed at my very old parents who are comparatively more vulnerable to social engineering scams such as this appears to be.Please note that this is a public site, so posters claiming that this number and process is legitimate are certainly part of the fraudulent social engineering or related in some way. It's a large industry preying upon a vulnerable population.
We answer this phone call- a recording says to stay on the line for an important call. We stay on the line. And they hang up every time.
They would call me 5 times a day for 6 months. I do not have a Wells Fargo account and have had my phone number for over 5 years. The past two months they stopped calling and then suddenly today I received 5 calls again within 3 hours. It's at the point now where I want to change my number. Don't fall victim to these scum bags, ignore them.
I think this is some kind of strange scam, or something...I showed interest about some credit cards online for Bad Credit scores, and I have been getting calls from "800" "877" and all different state area codes since. One of the only voicemails ever left was a sales-pitch sounding loan opportunity from Wells Fargo! I knew this was fishy because Wells Fargo had dropped me as a customer a few months ago, for the exact reason that I fell victim to an online scam concerning what I was hoping was a new job...Wells Fargo doesn't make poor credit loans, and thy are trying to collect money from me after shutting down my account, so I know they are not trying to loan me money!..
They've called me four times in the past 6 hours. I haven't answered yet, but after reading these posts, I will the next time they call simply out of curiosity. If this truly is a legitimate Wells Fargo number, they should be more cautious about the number of times they call their customers in one day. It's verging harrassment - they'll have a class action on their hands before too long.
