It looks like it is probably a real Suntrust number, but I would still always be careful about calling back to numbers that call you. The best thing to do is to look up the number for the same people elsewhere - in this case just Google for "Suntrust fraud" and call the number you find there. I'm not saying 888-494-0586 is fraudulent - it probably isn't! - but I just make it a general policy never to call numbers that people leave me if there's any possibility of fraud.
Received voice mail. Called back. It was SunTrust Fraud dept. They had detailed info on my transactions, bank account history and contact info that only they would know.Glad they called because there was activity that was suspicious. To the people that say it can't be SunTrust because it is a different phone number than website or bank statements. Suggest you look up critical thinking, logic and reason. Maybe try a game of chess and please don't reproduce.kthxbye
SunTrust fraud dept. Called main number to be safe. Yes they did call and leave a message because someone had tried to use debit number online but didn't have 3 digit code. Suntrust cancelled card and is issuing a new one.
Called me a dozen times today. Left no voicemail. I have no relationship with SunTrust.
Thanks for posting that- correct! NEVER call a phone number you got in an email, or phone message. If they say they are from Bank ABC, call the number from the phone book, back of credit card, or statement. NEVER click on email links, or text messages & NEVER give out personal information on a phone call you didn't originate.
I am always very skeptical of calls that come from toll free numbers or unidentified numbers, however, this is a legitimate call. This is the Suntrust Fraud Department. I called Suntrust directly and the number that I was given for the Fraud Department is the number that called me. There was an issue and thankfully the bank was on top of the situation!!!
REAL SUNTRUST NUMBER.Suntrust customer service has normal business hours. If something outside of normal business hours happens this is the number used. It is real. It is legit. I am not a robot or scammer saying this. My card was frozen after someone attempting to withdraw money from my account across the state. I called and got this handled through them and a new card. Google this number and you will see the official Suntrust twitter and Suntrust facebook have given this number to people. Also if you stay on the line with the Suntrust automated customer service this is the line they transfer you to for lost card etc. optionI gave the customer rep crap because I said online some people say this is a scam etc. and they had me hang up and call the automated to be sure if I didn't trust them and yes it transferred right to them again.
I received a call from this number within 10 minutes of placing an online order for a laptop priced a bit over 1k. A quick google brought me here, and as soon as I saw the words "SunTrust" I knew what the call was and called it back. Their automated system simply verified me, my account, and my purchase, requiring not much more than the last 4 digits off my card and my billing zipcode. So, yes, this is an absolutely legitimate call! If you have a SunTrust account and/or have made a significant purchase, take the call. Otherwise, simply ignore it.
Well I have to LOL (laugh) a bit because this number is both legitimate and non-legitimate.I'm a long-time SunTrust customer and they call me just about twice a month from this number so it IS legitimate in that sense. I live in Eastern Europe most of the time (although I am American), see, and so about twice a month my card gets flagged for "suspicious activity". It's been going on for YEARS so I'm quite familiar with this. The reason why it's not 100% "legitimate" is that the number belongs to a separate company which SunTrust subcontracts out to. Therefore you won't find this tel # on any SunTrust mail/website. However they ARE legitimately hired by SunTrust to verify "suspicious activity" etc. Also they are open 24 hours a day, which SunTrust's other numbers are not. If you're like me and your home address on the account is in one place but you use your card a lot in another place, REMEMBER this number. Then next time your card gets frozen, call it directly and you can skip a lot of extra time by dialing SunTrust directly.
