This is legitimate. It's Suntrust's fraud prevention department, it's an automated call; they call to confirm suspect purchases. They don't ask for any account information other than last 4 digit verification. I had put in an order for a software license and I mistyped my expiration date, and had to re-do the order. The fraud prevent called after the purchase went through to verify that the transaction (both the approved one and the one that declined) was authorized by me. Don't fret (unless you don't have an account with Suntrust, then you'd probably do well to call Suntrust's main help line and inquire as to why they're calling you).
Says they are confirming a purchase from Suntrust account but I waited for someone to come on and they hung up.
BEWARE: Do not believe that this is a bank's fraud department. This is what the automated message says, but when I received a call from them, I hung up and called the local branch of my bank. I asked the customer service folks to look at by account for suspicious activity. There was none of this. This number is a scam, a con. Be very careful. Hang up immediately if they call or ignore the call altogether.
Genuine number. Got a call from this number after my card was declined for an international debit. I contacted Suntrust and got this reply back: Thank you for writing to SunTrust. My name is Roger. They called my cell (also bus. # in yellow pages) from this # and said that someone tried to withdraw an exact amount of money from an atm in another state and wanted to know if I had authorized it. I had not, so they told me that the card is being shut off and to call cust. serv. at the same # that is on the back of my card in question. I did, they told me again the dollar amount, day, time and the city/state of atm location. They said to go to branch for more info. It is Sat. after branch hours, so I'll fret til Mon. I say always be careful. I check accounts online daily. I didn't have anyone ask me for PIN# or security code, but when I called customer service (the # on the back of my card) they did ask for account# and billing ZIP.
