Got a call from this number this morning, showed up as "Unknown" on my caller ID. They left a voicemail with vague threats about some lawsuit and something about a restraining order? I don't have any active debts, plus legal action does not happen via telephone. The lengths people go to sometimes...
I received a phone call this morning on my cell while at work. There was no caller ID so I didn't pick up. The message which was left was much as the rest of you are describing. It mentioned my name as well as a subpena and a restraining order for a debt collector. I was quite alarmed because I didn't have any debts that are unpaid. I attempted to call back from my work line and the phone rang and rang. I hung up and Googled the phone number and found this page. I called the number back from my cell and someone picked up right away. They stated they were litigators in a case against me from Cash Mail from 2011. They named my place of employment at that time and asked if I'd received the subpena at work or notification of need to appear. I said no. The man told me that I owed $1500 to Cash Mail for an unpaid payday loan and EVEN named the bank that I had at that time. He told me that I was facing charged of felony fraud and other charges then informed me that we were on a recorded line and asked if I was denying these charges. It was at this point I told him that I would need to speak with Cash Mail and get the details of the loan and asked for their number. He said that they were litigating for that company now and I needed to speak with him and asked if I was admitting or denying the charges. I told him that I was neither admitting nor denying the charges that I needed to speak with Cash Mail to get the facts. He asked why I was so dead set on speaking with Cash Mail. I told him because I Googled this phone number and found all of these comments and it seemed that everyone had the same story and were being "charged" in the same amount of $1500. He became angry and said that I needed to read the other comments because all of these were legit and for me to have a fun time in court and then hung up. As a follow up I Googled Cash Mail. I couldn't find a company listed under that name.
I received a voicemail saying I had to call back within four hours or I was going to receive a straining order and I would be sued. The message didn't tell me why and from the looks of it, this is all fake! #202-417-2021
This is like so many other scams I've dealt with in the past. One even told me he was a lawyer and would have me arrested. The best thing to do is to know the law, it's called the Fair Credit Reporting Act. It delineates what a collector can and can't do. What these yahoos are doing is COMPLETELY ILLEGAL in every way, even if they were legitimate! The first thing to remember is the first red flag is the "unknown" caller ID. These guys make me angry because they are not only a waste of my time but they are wasting our air also. Remember, knowledge is POWER so arm yourself!
I got a call last November and now one yesterday and today. They also mentioned a restraining order and court. They stated that I got a pay day loan in early 2013 and that I never paid it back. I asked them for documentation of the receipt of the money and where I signed an agreement. They were going to email it to me but I have not received anything. I called back and they said that they would put me on the do not call list and when I asked for a supervisor they hung up and would not answer when I called back. I have given the information to my lawyer.
I just receive a call from this number with a recording asking me to call within the next 4 hrs. with no information on company.
I got a recorded phone call from this number saying my son owed them money and that he would be sued 4 hours from now and to call them asap. I called they told me he owed them money. Said they were a lawfirm for payday loans. when I asked for the payday loans of america's phone number they hung up. I tried calling back numerous times and there is no answer or no one is available to take the call. I know this is a scam 1. to be sued they must send you mail correspondence, 2. they can't sue you 4 hours from now. 3. loan companies give their unpaid loans to collections. 4. they called my mother's house (my son's grandmother). 5. my son doesn't need to get loans from anyone.
