I received a call from this number stating, an application had been filed at Home Depot and they left a reference number and ID code to call them back with. They did not ask for any S.S. number but just name verification and the reference number and ID code. They confirmed they were alerted because I filed a report with Equifax and a 90 Day alert caused the flag. They said the application would not go through and a credit check would not be ran and I should fine on my part but should file a report with the local police. Equifax will extend the coverage for 7 years for free if you provide police report with your fraud claim.
This was totally a con!!! Never talk to anyone that calls you and do not call the number they give you back. Always call the # that is on the back of your credit card.
Just found they tried calling me yesterday, claimed I had applied for a Best Buy credit card. Nope. Never applied (I hate Best Buy with a passion, why would I sign up?)
Followup: I called the number back, got a message saying to call (800)950-5154, and the second result in searching on Google, says it comes from India. Digging a little deeper into Citibank's credit cards, and I haven't applied for even one of the credit lines listed. So who are the guys who are claiming it's a legit call?I just got off the phone with Citibank, and they verified that 2106771346 is not on their list of valid numbers. Looks like the scammers are catching on, and lying about it being legit calls.
I just opened a Sears Citibank Gold Mastercard about 2 hours ago online and then immediately made a charge for $1400 and then another a couple hours later for $800. This number called me to verify that it was in fact me and that the charges were not fraudulent. They had the exact dollar amount for each purchase and asked me to confirm no personal information other than my name. This was 100% legitimate.
Legit Citibank Fraud Department. They didn't ask me for any personal information, just to verify a wire transferred that I made previously.
Don't give out your personal info to someone who calls you. If you get a call from someone claiming to be your credit card company, hang up and call their 800 number just to be sure.
Constant blank messages left on Mother's Day with increments of 5 minutes caused me to block the number. The following day I received a call from the above number and a message to call Citi Bank with the number on the back of my card. I was not asked my SSN. Was told that someone used my number to buy $3000.00 worth of merchandise at Home Depot. They informed me, I would be issued new cards which would be expressed overnight. I received my new cards the next day When indoubt call the number from the back of the card. Thank you Fraud Division!!
This was legitimate in my case too. I was noty asked my account info, and they just told me the accounts have been compromised, and we needed to run a virus scan, and change the user name and password on the account.
