Received a call from this number. Caller asked for me by name. I thought it might be a telemarketer so I told him he had the wrong number and hung up. Searching for the number led to sites like this one, with some people reporting legit calls from Citi and some reporting scams. I do have 2 Citi cards, so I thought it could be legit. Called the toll-free number on one card, they said Citi had not called me about either card.
This was a callback from a CitiBank supervisor that I requested call me. It's a legit phone call.
They called twice. Left no msg. I'm in the process of changing from AmEx to Citi as part of the transition. I've been told there are 89,000,000 (yep) doing that now and it isn't going smoothly. I have not received a card as of yet. It should have been here in May. Perfect time for scammers don't you think? NO VOICE MAIL - NO CALLBACK - EVER!
Received a call from this number today that went to my recording. Stated that they were calling from Best Buy credit leaving this telephone number along with a reference number and a reference code. Called the number on the back of a Best Buy Rewards Card as I do not have or ever had a Best Buy Credit Card. I was eventually connected to the New Application Service Department and the individual verified that somebody has applied for a Best Buy Credit Card but that it was declined as I am a member of CSID Fraud Alert. The person at Citibank/Best Buy stated that he will notify Experian as that this was a fraud attempt to make sure that the decline does not get posted; also gave me a fax number to Citibank to request a copy of the application for police investigation, using the same reference number that i was given prior.I have dealt with many fraud attempts and all you need to do is be careful with what info you give, such as when they asked for a SSN decline to give it to them and have them verified by telephone number. This is legit as this 888 number they initially called from also services Home Depot, Citibank, Best Buy, and about five other credit card application sites.
Received a voicemail from this number (210-677-1346) today about some suspicious activity on a Best Buy card. They said to call back 1-877-560-1088 and gave a reference number. I DO NOT have a Best Buy card. They asked for the social security number AND the account number, neither of which were provided. Then checked all three credit reports for a fraudulent Best Buy account. None existed. Beware.
I received an empty voicemail from this number, but I was actually on the phone with Cit's Fraud Unit when I received it, so I also believe this is a legitimate number.
I am seeing every other post about Citi cards, Macy's cards and Best Buy cards. I do not have any of these cards and received a call from this number 3 times in the past 2 days. Luckily I was at work and could not take the calls when they came in, they did not leave a voicemail either. I think it is safe to say it is not a good idea to give this caller any of your information seeing as how mine would be irrelevant to them without any of these cards. I hope the people who did give out their info did not have any type of fraudulent activity on their cards After the fact.
Its real. Sears credit about identity theft. I thought scam and hung up and called sears myself. Sure enough someone opened up an account there. Then pulled my credit and saw they opened up about 5 more. This call alerted me to it. NOT A SCAM.
