I've just had one of these calls telling me that my computer is infected. I was wary, but let him (an Indian sounding guy) guide me so far through the process, but then before he gave me that 6 didit number, the phone went dead. I was in the process of looking up windows service centre and saw all the scam reports, when he rang back. I told him what I had found on google and he hung up on me. Just proves he was a scamster!
I got the same call today (2 Aug 10), my mother-in-law was looking after my sick kids so I could do the shopping, when I got home she told me that I had 4-5 calls, all which hung up on her. Shortly after I got the call from the indian fellow telling me my firewall was not working properly etc, & my computer had sent them a notification of multiple errors etc, we did all the start-run searches & he kept pushing me on to go to the website, (company was www.windowssupportonline.com), when I did he then pushed me to sign up, I told him I had to pick up kids from school could I call him back, he gave me the 02 80915001 and then pushed again to sign me up as it would 'only take a minute' and they could be 'fixing the problems while I was out', I declined and hung up. They called back at 7pm and I put them off as I hadn't had time to goggle them, then at 8pm I recieved 3 calls in succession which I let go to the answer machine & of course they hung up each time. Still waiting for thier next call, makes you wonder how well the 'do not call' register is working if these people can still get our phone numbers!
I know how this process works. It is a scam company no doubt.First they create the problems and then they solve the problems themselves. The problems they refer to is never going to hamper your computer. They are not registered with any legitimate company.I know people who work for this process. They solve issues like removing temp files and prefetch files which any computer literate person or even some softwares can do.It is advisable, not to go for their support. They make up fake names and threaten you people with spyware/malware attacks, system freezing,PC running slow which any computer illiterate person is going to fall for.I know a lot about this SupportOnClick process and it is nothing but fooling customers in UK,US and Australia as they cannot fool people in Asia that easily.
Didn't manage to get his number but it was Windows Service Centre and all the waffle in other's postings. Didn't give access and politely got rid of him. UK 1471 reported the call but as "number withheld". He said he's call back despite my telling him we are on the telephone Preference list
I received a phone call tonight from a foreign guy saying I needed to fix my computer as it was vunerable to viruses. He said he was from the Windows, (exactly what I can't remember) He started to guide me through what I had to do. I got rather annoyed and asked why he had rang as I wasn't having any problems. As I have both a computer and a laptop I asked which one it was? He then put me on to his supervisor who wasn't much help. I ended the call as I was suspicious.
I am happy with supportonclick as well. they have helped me install an anti virus in my machine. the support staff was efficient and friendly. he helped me install the anti virus in a few minutes. And the best part is you have to do nothing yourself. the whole thing is automated. Now I am happy with the anti virus security in my computer.I can now surf the internet with peace of mind. thank you supportonclick.
Just had my second call from these people. The first time,i pretended to follow their instructions and when he asked me questions, I played dumb and told him to finish giving me the instructions and i would do it myself later. Not happy with that,he put me on to his technical advisor, who also tried unsuccessfully to get me to follow his instructions. I had a gut feeling from the start that they weren't interested in helping me as they were too pushy and if they were acting on behalf of windows, you would think they would send me an email!! I am very wary of indian speaking phone people and it's needs to be stopped. I will be contacting my phone provider with a complaint and blocking my calls!!!! Grrrrr
just had a call from an Indian man too, telling me he was from windows service centre and my computer had virus's When I refused to give his technical dept remote access he hung up. I would warn anyone not to allow remote access unless they know the person or company. If I had not been in my partner may have allowed it, so warn all who use computers in your household to say no too
I got this call from support on click and I let them tinker with my comp for a couple of hours. They said it was a trial period and fixed all the issues I have been facing with my computer. Somehow I might have been lucky to get a better caller than what you guys are saying. Neither did I have to pay a buck. Are you sure they said they are from Microsoft?
Indian guy- bad connection: Said was from Microsoft Support Centre. Quite bossy- Each time I said 'i don't understand what you're saying' he raised his voice in a rude, pushy sounding way... I still could not make out a word of it. His arrogance was good psychology- making me wonder if he was doing me a real favour. Said they'd received an error message saying my machine had 'junk stuff on it'. I played along with him for a little bit to see what the scam was. I gave away the info about what OS i run (was that a risk?) He was asking me to go into My Computer, then look for a a folder called 'managing' (i think he meant management)- I started laughing. He said "are you laughing sir?" "Yes""Why""because you sound a complete liar""No I assure you I am not sir" He hangs up-
