Feb 16 -- also in IL. buncha calls today re: MS "hacking found" on computer. yeah, rite. last dood name Ben, he said.
Just got a call at 10 pm frond this number...Indian man who could hardly speak English. I first yelled because I have 2 babies sleeping and then said what the hell are you trying to sell me. He said not trying to sell anything your computer may have a virus that the virus protection program will not pick up. So I said so you want to hack into my computer to check it and he said no I need you to go on it and i will walk you through it. I then said oh so then when I do this you can then hack into my computer and steal my information....what do you think I am an idiot...he said no miss your not an idiot your very smart. So I said I guess I am right then, he said can you go to your computer, I then asked him just to tell me how o do it and he said he would call back Monday I said you do and I will press charges for harassment (10 calls a day for a week now and late at night) and let the authorities know you are hacking in to peoples computers. He then hung up. I called the number back and it defiantly was not his voice on the voice mail so I left a message saying I just received a call from this number but this is not the voice of the man who called me. I wish there was something we could really do, I am definitely going to see what number comes up on my phone bill.
What happened to the do not call registry?? I never answer a call from a number I don't know and since when is there a 555 exchange???
I got the same call from the number 222555777 from a guy with an accent that most probably came from an african nation like Nigeria or Kenya or the like. I got an inkling that this was a swindler or something but I want to test how their modus operandi was all about. First he tells that my computer may have problems that no virus protection program will be able to detect. I asked him, so, what is it to you. He said we are going to help you. Okay, "what do you want me to do?" He asked me to go to Start>Run and type the "eventvwr". I know this command line is going to check the windows log and events that happened to my computer but I went along with the ride. So he asked me what I see and of course it is the event viewer window. He asked me how many errors and warning I got and I said thousands of errors and warnings. (Because I haven't cleared them up for a year now). Then he called his supervisor and a hispanic sounding accent came in and talked to me about having so many errors and warnings that is not good for my computer that will cause it to crash. I said, yeah it's Windows so what do you expect? We can help you clean it up and again the usual line of a virus protection program will not be able to detect it. I again asked what is it to you? Well I will hand you to our technician to help you with your problem. I told him, I don't want to pay anybody to take care of my computer. I can clean it up on my own. With that he hanged up. So any of you who read this, just hang up when you received that number.
Caller woke me up this morning (day sleeper), has called twice since then. I answered the third time, no one on the line, followed by a short, quiet "beep". I am not going to answer anymore. Hope it stops as it uses my prepaid minutes!
My grandma let them in to her computer using the 6 digit pass code.. what should she do to get these people out of her computer?
I kept receiving this call as well. I finally answered it. When he started with "You could have a virus on your computer. Please go to your computer" I told him I just moved and my computer has been disconnected for a long time and still is. I haven't heard from him since. That was 9/27 or /28. Maybe it worked.
