One time answered after several calls knowing there is not a 282 area code and he said "you die" andhung up.
Scam - trying to claim there is a legal action against me - saying i didn't pay off a payday loan (which I have always paid immediately in full on the next payday by postdated debit, on the very few occasions that i got one). I have been getting calls from this same scam for months - at least 20+ times. Usually an Indian accent, always claim to be from a law firm, have ridiculous names like "Mike Turner" and "John Sampson" that clearly don't fit their complete lack of American English skills. This last time I played with him for almost 1/2 an hour, changing languages between English and Spanish randomly, asking him if he liked gladiator movies (he did), and telling him I was anxious to defend myself in court. He certainly was persistent, as he kept going back into his script at every opportunity.I figure since i can't get them to stop calling, I could at least waste as much of their time as possible.
I've been getting calls from this number on my cell phone for the past couple of days. When one finally connected, I had a pretty good idea it was a scam so I had some fun with it. I pretended that the person they were calling for, me, was recently deceased. I ask them if they were a close friend, all the while sobbing and pretending to cry. It rattled the guy when I told him that the death was being investigated as a murder and that I had been told by the police to answer the phone and report any callers and numbers to them for investigation. The guy got really upset that he didn't even know the deceased (me) and that he was just calling robo numbers. I was able to make him admit that it was all a scam. Have some fun with the jerks.
I get this number calling me alot I finally answered it today and all you could hear was alot of static and backround noise like a really crappy cell phone connection, you could barely hear a female talking in the backround....if these people wanna pull a scam they better go to school and learn how to speak english!!
Sounded Hispanic - something about my mortgage, which is privately financed so he doesn't have any information on it anyway - I couldn't understand a damn word he said. Just hung up on him - I'm sure he will call back now.
It's the same for everybody. Like others here, I've started having some fun. Most times I don't answer. Sometimes when I do, I just say "What? What? What? What"...until they hang up on me. Then I call back and do the same thing when they answer "What? What? What?" and they hang up on me again! Other times I go along, "OMG!! I'm in trouble?? Oh no, I don't have an attorey...OMG!!!" Then, I tell them I'm going to have to pray about it, that I'm sure "GOD" will intervene and remove my enemies from the face of the earth"...lol For real kicks, I say "I am a voodoo queen from New Olreans and I am putting a curse on everyone who calls from that particular number, as well as their families and friends and the lands that they live in" and hang up. I know...it's probably only funny to me...but it takes them awhile before they call back.
I receive these kinds of calls at least 10 times a week and of course the numbers and names always change, but the accents and the lame excuses never do. It is always a very harsh middle eastern accent and they always use the payday loan scam to try and scare you. this is it just doesn't work, this is so overused that nobody seriously falls for it a hundred plus times! You would think that after slinging the same crap to the same people over and over again you would eventually just end up wasting your time to get your [***] chewed by these people. What a waste of time! I get to the point that when I know it's a scammer calling, I pick up the phone and scream as loud as I can in the receiver to see if they do anything after that. My advice is just to deal with it and give them hell when you can. eventually this crap wont work anymore because it is so overused everyone knows what the red flags are and are not going to buy into the shi**y little scams.
I received a call from this number. Person sound middle eastern on the other end of line… they told me my windows operating system had been infected by a virus. They then asked for my isp address and a cc # so the could fix the problem remotely. I am not an idiot so I asked for their info again and they hung up on me.
