It is completely legit. I had my MC compromised 6/09/2012. The # on my email message for the online purchase (which I did not make) was a waste of time....no one even offered to close my acct. I had to ASK that it be closed. Two CS reps handled my call terribly. Then today I recv'd call from this number. I Googled to, found this site and was still suspicious. The vm asked me to call 866-622-7929 (I might have the last four digits mixed up). I just got off the phone with B of A. This CS rep was VERY empathetic and helpful. She never asked me anything that would arouse my suspicion as to whether 'this' 866 # was bogus. She merely asked all the right questions: "Have you ever used this merchant in the past? Asked if I had ever phoned a certain long distance number (nope)....you get the gist. But, why should you trust me? If you are not sure, simply do the SMART thing and phone the number on the back of your card, or look online and phone a number that you TRUST. There is nothing worse (well there are lots of things worse) than the feeling that someone has stolen your privacy and violated you.

The number was legitimately from a Fraud Department for B of A. BUT, I TOTALLY agree with you: the SAFEST thing to do is call the numb on the back of your card or look online for your bank's fraud department or customer service number and allow them to transfer your call to the appropriate person.

I received a message on the answering machine. Caller ID said CARD SERVICES 302-458-1590. The person left a message saying he was from American Express and to call 866-299-4016 because possible fraudulent activity was noted on the account. He said a charge may or may not have been blocked from going through. I called American Express at the number on the back of the card, and they said neither of these phone numbers belongs to American Express.

Yes, it is legitimate. Bank of America Card Services calls to check if there are any suspicious purchases on your card to confirm that it was you that made them as a security measure to protect you from card theft.I really appreciate this service because of the security measure it provides to protect the use of my credit cards. You can not reach them by calling the 302 area code number in Delaware, and the 800 numbers they give you on the recording requires a extension or they hang up on you.Just call the Customer Service Number on the back of your card [ record this number and keep it with a family member or trusted friend in case your card is lost or stolen so your card can be frozen and not be used to drive up a large bill by a thief or finder of your card.]If you lose the card or its stolen, you will not have the number on you because they may have gotten your entire wallet so it makes no sense to keep it on you, unless you are with your spouse and they have the same credit card in their wallet and its with them and you.

Actually, FIA Card Services is NOT a collection agency except to collect payments for your credit card. They provide processing for BOA AND my personal bank so both cards I have were provided to me by FIA Card Services originally, but BOA later told me I could just send the payment directly to them, which was fine for me.FIA Card Services is in Dallas, Texas and only deals with issuing credit cards [legitimately] and your bill will usually have their information on it.So, all is okay even though I heard some slightly negative things about FIA CC cutting down your spending limit if you are flatulent in the least.Hope this helps.

Actually, they live on Earth unless you know something that the rest of us don't.Just call the number for Customer Services on the back of your credit card [store it with a trusted family member or trust friend in case your wallet is stolen and call them to have your card account closed and send you another one] to be sure you get to the right people to help you. But, hey, what do I know? I am a Martian.

The person you spoke to probably didn't realize it was their "call-out-only-phone-number" because you can not call them back on it and the 800 numbers need an extension number or it hangs up on you.Your best bet will always be to call the number to Customer Services 800 number on the back of your credit card, and as I have been saying, in case your entire wallet has been stolen [unless your mate / partner has the same card and they are with you] give your credit card number and this phone number on the back of your card to a trusted friend or family member to notify BOA that your card has been lost or stolen to provide you with a measure of security.I am glad they called when I made a strange purchase [ that looked suspicious to them ] to keep my credit cards safe. Nice service with all the identity theft going on these days, which is frightening when you think of it. Depending on your card services, ID theft is horrible and takes forever to get it corrected.Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that no one is out to get you.~

hi, this is for real; its b of a and they do monitor the accounts. I called and the person was very nice and explained why/what....and it was because I opened another account on my work computer; yeah shame on me and thats why they were checking. I explained why I opened another account and all was taken care of and I was happy. He reset my card, online access and everything. Well I'm sad today because all my info is blocked again and I called again and they said another area within the same fraud dept went in behind them and set my accounts to be closed in error and 'they' determined it was fraud even after speaking to me. HUH?? yup it happened. so now i have all these pending checks to go through that will get returned and will have to pay all these fees because someone else determined it was fraud. the lady I spoke to was really nice though and is working with me to hopefully get it fixed. So bottom line, it is a real number and you have to call them to get it fixed because the actual b of a number will tell you oh your account is being handled by another department.

NOT Newark. Thieves like you should be strung up by your gonads to a high voltage fence. Get a job. You cost me two weeks' worth of headache by catching me off guard. Go straight to H-ll. Do not Pass Go, do not collect $ 200.

The person called to verify employment of someone, but I didn't recognize the person's name. The caller had an accent, and I couldn't understand them. I didn't call back to let them know they had reached a wrong number.
Quit smoking quit line. Not spam. I used the Quit line to quit smoking. This is a follow up call.
