Yes, there is more that you can do if you are willing to do it. There are at least three caller ID software programs that will cut off blocked numbers after one ring. You can block area codes, all variations of "800 numbers" and any names and numbers that you want. Each program requires your computer to be operating, a caller ID capable modem, and caller ID from your telephone company. The programs are Identaphone Pro, PhoneTray, and CAllClerk. I have used the first and last of these. CallClerk (with the right modem) will allow you to block unwanted calls as described above (with the standard intercept tone if you wish), pass through familiar callers unhindered, and send unfamiliar callers to a software voice mail program in your computer (and then send an email to you with a .wav file of the message attached). If you are interested, search for these programs and find out for yourself what they are, do, and cost. I'm not selling anything, and I recommend them all.If you don't have an internal dial-up modem with caller ID capabilities, there is a cheap one made by Hiro (HiRO V.92 56K Lucent Chipset USB Modem (XP 64bit Vista ready/RoHS) (H50113)) that works with Vista and Windows 7, giving all the features described above. It works best with driver v2.2.98.0. It plugs into a USB slot of any PC (not apple) and has, in the recent past, been shipped with a low quality USB cable that you may wish to replace. The software will untimately cost you $25 to $35 dollars (each one has a free trial of some kind) and the modem mentioned about $25 dollars. If you can't install and set up the modem due to age or general ditziness, find a young person who can. There are other devices that will accomplish some of these tasks, but the software packages are the most powerful and easy to use.Calls coming to our house now follow three different patterns. Blocked calls ring once (or twice with the intercept tone) and are dropped. Calls from people known to us continue to ring until we answer or the Comcast answering machine answers for us. Calls from people we don't know (who haven't already been blocked) are sent to the internal (not Comcast) answering machine, and we can then either block their future calls or put them on the "acceptable" list and call them back. All this gets straightened out ofter a few weeks. If you want to do this and have further questiions, google for one of the software packages mentioned above. Each one explains the whole business. The Do Not Call list is a LIST, not a policing system. The problem of illegitimate and legitimate calls that you do not want is vast and would probably take billions per year to police.
Caller ID "Service Call", several times in the last couple of days, good thing that I didn't answer.
I'm getting calls at least once a day from this phone number. I don't pick up & when my answering machine does, it's a busy signal. I call back to tell them to stop calling & I get "No one is available to take your call. Good bye." Then it hangs up on me.
I got this same call from a guy named Lenny with the Auto Recovery and asked him what this was in regards and he hung up on me. Yes unfortunatly Comcast, crap as they are, published this new phone number!! Thanks Comcast!
I had 2 phone calls from these people!!! 1st phone call from a woman told her my husband was not here can I take a message hung up right away.2nd phone call today 9/5 and told him the same thing my husband wasn't here and who was calling he said auto processors and hung up.... They are very rude!! They act outraged if it was from a debt collector they would be leaving a phone number...
I keep getting a call from this number, but no one ever leaves a message. When I try calling back, there is dead silence and then a rapid busy signal.
We have gotten several phone calls from same number asking for my husband and hanging up when my children try to take a message. I sure hope they find the person doing this.
We get 2 to 3 calls a day from this number. Caller ID shows it as "Service Call." We never answer and they never leave a message.
I have received three calls from 315-939-1963 within the past 24 hours. In each case it was not a recorded message and the caller was trying to sell me an extended warranty on my automobile. They seemed to know my name and what kind of car I had. I called the dealership and they assured me that they do not sell or give their customer information to anyone. I hope they are right, because I am more than pissed off by this. The telemarketers are wasting their time, and more importantly, they are wasting mine. I report all such calls to donotcall.gov but am not confident that it makes any difference whatsoever. I suppose they keep calling because there are enough people who fall for their pitch.
Got a call twice in the last 3 days from this number. I answered today and man wanted to speak to my husband. Told him he wasn't available right now and he said he would call him later...glad to have read this before he calls back...thanks for all the info here everyone! Some people are really bored!
