What ever happened to the "DO NOT CALL" registry??? Obviously it now longer works. Lady calls this morning with a broken accent and said my compoooter not working properly. I told her I didn't own one and to stop calling here. So sick and tired of these calls.
I've received this same type of call numerous times about my "Windows PC being infected with a virus". Lately, I act all panic like and thank them for notifying me as I yell back through the phone...letting them know that I must run shut my computer down immediately. Then I just lay the phone down and go about my business. They hang up after about 30 seconds.
Amy Murphy is busy right now. When I get the repeated calls regarding my computer, basically I tell them to go relieve themselves. She just called.
These scammers are relentless. They've now branched out to my friends and the constant barrage of unwanted phone calls is insane. Someone kindly do some before I blow my head off!!
These people are reprehensible. I reported them to the FTC and the Do Not Call registry. Probably won't make any difference, but doing something felt better than just being angry and disgusted. They've called 5 times in the last 11 days. The first three I didn't answer. The fourth I did and told them I knew it was a scam and not to call me again. They called again today. This time, I engaged the man, asking for his business name -- supposedly, US Personal Computer Care-- and how he knew about my computer, how he could access it behind my firewall, etc. I just wanted to see what he'd say. He said they used my CLSID and did I know what that was? "Why, no, I have no idea what that is, please explain to me how you got it and can use it to look at my computer." Etc. Etc. Finally, I told him there's no way he knew anything about my computer and I didn't have any computer problems. I then asked him to please not call me again. No response. "Do you understand me? Please don't call this number again, okay? Take this number off your list." Dial tone.
Received call from number indicating it's in Ohio. Didn't leave message. Called back, but only beeps are heard.
Received a phone call at 10:30 a.m. from a man with a thick Indian accent claiming to be Tech Support for my infected computer. I asked him which computer? I told him I have more than one. He said the one connected to the internet. I asked him if he could be more specific. He said the one that I was using that was hooked up to the internet. I told him that the computers aren't hooked up to the internet and asked which one was causing the issues. He told me I was sending out viruses. I asked how if the computers were not hooked up to the internet. He hung up on me.
