This number just called my work number looking for me. I recently just purchased a car and I'm guess that is how my info got updated with this number. The lady who spoke to me is called in regards to an account that I had in 2005, but my last payment was in 2007. Sooo... you are going to call someone in 2011 for payment? Give me a break. and she refused to fax any information over to me to review. I had closed this account at that time, and know that it was paid off. It's sad that people do this.

This Portfolio Recovery has been calling me from a different number every time since July. Even the area codes are different each time. I suspect Caller ID spoofing. I doubt if even a company as big as AT&T has that many call centers. Once I got a recorded message saying the call is about a debt. Otherwise, just hang ups.Also wanted everyone to know that they can appear as "Unknown Caller" with no number displayed at all. I've been getting those calls about 3 times a day for 3 weeks so far; one time I picked up (without saying anything, no background noise) to see if anyone was on the line. A guy came on asking for this other person they've been looking for since 2009! I blasted his eardrums with this noisemaker I have (it sounds like a machine gun firing or loud static). It's either Portfolio or another agency using "Unknown Caller" as an ID.Since 2009, I've been getting calls from different agenices all looking for this person. I've had my number over 10 years, but I never answer it cause of how I've read on this site (& others) how nasty they get if you tell them they have the wrong number.Sometimes I hang up on them rather than let it ring. Anyway, I don't care if they call me 20 times a day. I'm never picking up. My credit reports are clean, so no identity theft Thank God. Besides, they are asking for some other name. Anyway, I don't owe anyone anything, money or otherwise!

there may be hope in dealing with portfolio recovery. The Do Not Call website has a link for bill collectors. I didnot have any info about portfolio recovery except there name and the, at least, 6 different numbers they use to try and get me to pick up the phone. But, there was a box to make comments in. I commented that I do not owe any one any $, and they are leaving messages for someone I've never heard of. Take the time, fill out there paperwork. If they get 1000 internet complaints about Portfolio Recovery can we finally put these pests out of business?

This company appears to have dredged up some long forgotton account from a dozen years ago and inflated the amount by many thousands of dollars in "interest".They purchase debt for pennies on the dollar, add the "interest" and go after you.After a year of calls, this has become extortion. I would think that reporting them to the various states' Attorney General's Office could take the air out of Portfolios tires.

I owe nothing! I get calls on my land line. Since I don't recognize the number I don't answer, but I don't want them to call anymore.

Yes, this is Port Folio looking to collect on old debts. Therefore, I never answer my phone. IF I know who is calling I will answer. I get on Google, to look up the number. Port Folio will nevergive up. And, yes they can call between 8 am and 9 pm on whatever time zone you are on.I keep saying to myself if the phone will ring at 9:05 pm I will answer it, but they can't call. HaHaHa!They will call from unknown name and number, out of area (because I don't know anyone out of area or calling from an unknown phone). They will call from Georgia, Illinois, Tennessee, and now this number is from California. I guess they are getting tired of me not answering. Oh well. You snooze, you lose. Lol. All they need to do is get on Google and see all the comments. I know I'm not the only one who is NOT answering the phone. I am not going to get in a shouting match with them. Plus, if they get you on the phone, that gives them a chance to reset the date of the bill theyare trying to collect on. And, I don't want to do that, either. Yes I owe a debt on a vehicle that was repossessed. They want $18,000.00 and it sold at auction for $2,000. Well, I am on disability and do not have any extra money. So, I will just wait them out.
