I am fully aware of what the DNC is and how it functions. My posts do not state that I expect weasels to honor it nor does it state anywhere that I count on the government to enforce it. The DNC was never intended as an enforcement tool. Only as a guidline for legitimate Telemarketing Businesses who are registered with the FTC, to follow in observing the list of those who do not wish to be called. I never said that I expect the DNC to enforce anything except those who are legitimate Telmarketers. How can the DNc enforce the list? There are over 500 million telephones in the USA and 1.5 billion+ telephone calls made each day. What kind of a super computer or Army would it require to monitor and screen the calls for each and every Telephone and the call made to each and every individual in the USA and determine if each of those calls were unwelcomed or not to each individual. What kind of system could determine what calls each and every person wanted to accept and which ones were unacceptable? What's acceptable to one may not be to another. The FTC/DNC has one simple determination in accepting complaints against callers. Was it a caller soliciting the sale of goods or services to a person on the DNC list. If it was anything else...scammer, charity, informational, political, nonprofit, survey, religion, or anything else, it is either exempt or a job for the FCCs. you will not receive many calls from Actual legitimately registered telemarketers. If you do, report them to the DNC. If enough legitimate complaints are made, those who are in fact legitimate are easily found and fined by the FTC. (The fine for each violation is $16K)They find them by simply picking up the phone book or their file. Legitimate Registered Telemarketers have Legitimate company names, company principals, permanent addresses (Locations) permanent Business telephone numbers, advertise, and must observe all of the proprieties and necessities of conducting business in a consumer based market. On the other hand, most complaints filed with the DNc are not valid in accordance with the laws Governing it, nor are they prosecutable by the FTC/DNC. Lack of man power and funds prevent witch hunts based upon complaints that are not enforceable by the DNC.. The DNC is in fact the honor system.A system titled by something that there is very little of today. The information provided on my posts are based upon the DNc registry and FTC site. Go there and read for yourself. Don't shoot the messenger.
"Do not call" means "do not call" regardless of whether their computer connected you to a salesperson or not. Computers call hundreds of numbers at the same time and then connect them to an available salesperson. If you answer and you are saying "hello" several times, it is a computer that dialled you. Foreign countries who make scam/telemarketing calls can have your caller ID show whatever they want, any number, any state, any name. just because you get a call that caller ID shows as your bank, call the bank back using a number you know and never give out account numbers or passwords, should be common sense these days of scams.
Called during the evening hours which always ticks me off to begin with. Then, left no message. Slimy bastages!
So, I am just an honest, hardworking criminal, does that mean you should not complain when I call to rip you off?
If you do not know the number don't answer! Don't call them back! That just let's them know there's a person there whatever kind of call it is. The company will say they take you off their list but they don't. In my case calls increased. Some companies use several numbers. Gradually the calls have lessened. Still get a couple but not like before when I answered and tried to call back etc.Takes patience but just check number on google. DO NOT Answer! That's what they want
The fallacy with the DNC list is that the numbers must be given to telemarketers and businesses so they "know" who not to call. But as w all know, telemarketers and businesses have no ethics except to make profits. What you may not know is that selling phone numbers is, in itself, a business. I worked for a customer service firm (incoming calls only) some years ago and had access to a list of people who dealt only in buying and selling phone numbers. Answer any of these calls and your number moves up on the "good" numbers list. Give you number to a businesses (warranty card, pay-by-check, survey, etc) and there is a good chance that your number goes on a list to be sold. Even a single individual with access to his/her company's list could supplement their income this way. There are businesses and a few telemarketers that honor the DNC list. The only way I see to stop these illegal calls is (1) to require all phone carriers to provide unlimited, free number blocking; (2) require the FCC to track which carriers have large numbers of their numbers blocked and then put those carriers out of business (remember the phone numbers are "owned" by the people of this country and only "leased" to the carriers.)
Same thing.. caller ID says "cell phone, FL" .no message, didn't pick up (never do when I don't recognize the number).
they don't do anything, the do not call. I report numbers, no response, EVER! The calls keep coming.
