While I appreciate the inconvenience you have experienced by getting a phone call from an attempted scammer, your conclusion that the number on your phone is related to that attempted scam is incorrect. Firstly, if someone is trying to commit fraud, they would be very foolish to leave their own number so obviously, the number on your phone has been spoofed. Secondly, it is a little harsh to jump to conclusions without first looking into the matter more closely. I expect that the Police explained the problem to you -- or perhaps your bank did. Please all support federal efforts to make Caller ID Spoofing illegal.
Very well stated ... especially the last point. We are currently in another flood of calls - 625 since last evening according to our missed call counter - and appreciate those untold numbers of people who didn't call back the number on their Caller ID. Someone has spoofed our number, yet again. Nothing we can do about it ... except hope that one day our elected representatives make it illegal to spoof.

Received call from this # @ 8:46am on 2/12/11, hung up as soon as I heard Washington Mutual Bank.I called my bank and verified this was a fraud.
Got a call from this number 408-942-9800 on May 29 at 3:20 PM. The recorded message said my atm card was being cancelled for unauthorized use. I hung up and checked my accounts. This is a dangerous scam. Hope they find these guys and lock them up!!

When you answer the phone they hang up. They are trying to see if the number is actually associated with a person or not. Most likely they will clone the number.
