Got a call today at 1:35 PM EST saying my HSBC account had been locked. Pressed 1 to contact customer service, but was not planning on putting in any numbers. Luckily no one picked up
Got a call today on my cell phone at 8:57 am, automated, saying it was from my bank, and my bank/debit card had been locked & I needed to "press 1 to speak to the security dept" - knew it was a scam & hung up
DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFO -- Recording indicates it's Grow Financial Credit Union and my card has be lost - which I know this is not true since I just used it for a transaction - I logged into my online bank account and all was good - also called Grow and they have been getting a lot of complaints about this. If you get one - call Grow and tell them so that they can document and perhaps get these SCUMBAGS.
Your advice to not give out any personal information is spot on. Banks would never call and ask for this. However, your assumption that the number on your caller ID is actually the number that called you is incorrect. The number has been spoofed Google Caller ID Spoofing for more information. Your suggestion that people call the financial institution and/or the number on caller ID is also not good advice. Neither of those actions will do anything except disrupt these businesses. Please read back through this thread for more information.
received call on my cell, Sunday evening. Same thing - auto/robo said my account placed on hold. I hung up. I called Chase and all was well
A recorded message stated that my Chase Debit Mastercard had been stolen or lost, so press "one" to get it reinstated. I don't have any type of card from Chase nor do I have any credit cards - it's a scam from an old telephone number with a new twist!
Just got call from 000-000-0000 saying it was 24 HR. Banking center and that my account was suspended. If I wanted yo reactivate, give my 16 digit account number.
Rec'd an automated voicemail call from this number stating my 'Merrill Lynch debit card had been suspended'. Funny, I don't have a merrill debit card. I called back from a landline and the voicemail said it was "Vector Fabrication". Hang up on these folks, as they are obviously trying to get financial information from people unwittingly.
Our number has been 'spoofed' - meaning that a third party has been using it without our knowledge or permission to put it on caller IDs. We have nothing to do with this call, did not make this call, and would appreciate it if people would refrain from calling back. We can only tell any who call (300 to 400 per day) the same thing.
