Thank you for your comment. Actually, the people who are running this scam have 'spoofed' the phone numbers of legitimate businesses and left them on the caller ID. While they are certainly not very considerate of people's schedules, they are not dumb enough to leave their own number. There is, at this time, unfortunately nothing that the business victims can do about this (other than suffer through the 300+ calls per day about this matter). However, the individuals receiving the calls can warn their friends and associates about the attempted scam so that they don't fall for it. By the way, it appears that the robo calls are just dialing through all the numbers in a particular exchange looking for the few who do release their information. From our law enforcement sources, it does not appear that they are targeting any particular individual -- just simply throwing a wide net in the hopes of picking up something. The best thing to do is to not answer calls from numbers you don't recognize.
I just received a call from this number 5 minutes ago so I looked it up on here I'm glad I didnt answer it now. So much of this going on I even entered my cell number on the do not call list.
They called me at around 3:30 in the morning! They are definitely very inconsiderate psychopaths!
I got a call at around 3:30am from these inconsiderate rats. I called back and the man who answered was rude. And said "our number has been spoofed" That's all he kept saying. I don't buy that! I knew he was full of BS. He is a psychopath, for calling people so early in the morning and for even calling at all.
Was woken up at 12:30 A.M. with a call from this number to my cell phone. A recording says my mastercard from 5th 3rd bank was suspended and to press 1 for more information. Since I don't have a credit card it was a no brainer. What astounds me is that these calls have been being made for at least four years now, seeing the original dates on this forum going back to 2010. Also, the Do Not Call registry only applies to legitimate businesses trying to sell you something. It doesn't keep scum bags from calling random numbers in the middle of the night, sadly.
I am glad you had the opportunity of getting this off your chest. However, if you would take time to look up 'Caller ID Spoofing' you will see that it is a legitimate and pervasive problem. As for being rude, that is certainly in the eye of the beholder.
Got a call, said they were with Associated Bank, and there was a problem with my debit card, wanted me to enter my account # and press 1. All my accounts are already frozen, and none with Associated anyway, so it was an obvious scam. Do feel bad though because I called the number and left a less than nice message with the first voicemail box I got into - I assumed one of their employees might have been earning extra income on the side - never heard of number spoofing before.
