They may not be paranoid, numbers can be spoofed. Although that is in fact the number for social security, if they call people and do not leave a message, I can understand why some may not answer the phone.
NOT A SCAM!! Social security Administration calling to confirm bank info for payments.
#1 This is in fact the number for social security. Having said that, to make sure when you answer, if they are saying they are from social security, please ask them a security question to that only they would know. They wanted my bank routing # as I needed direct deposit but before I gave that out, I made them tell me the name of my lawyer. The gentlemen went into my file and gave a correct response. Always verify who you are talking to. Have a blessed day :)
Same call wanted to verify my address said they were sending me a worksheet that needed filled out about my work history. Ugh

Called three times and left no message. The third time the name that came up on my phone was Authors Club president. I answered and the caller then said they were collecting on a debt, claimed they were recording the call. Scam.
