I received a telephone call from Latrice Whitaker today. She referred to my online application for benefits (which I did submit 7/1/15). She told me when my benefits would begin, the month that the first benefit check would cover, and the amount I would receive. She had questions relating to my ex-husband. She asked if I had any questions. She did not ask me for any personal information, i.e., date of birth, sun, address, etc.I do believe this number is legitimate.
MB - I also received a call from Latrice, and she also gave me the 2981 number to call her back. Her message was about a current issue, but the detail she wanted to clear up made me suspicious. This is on a Sunday afternoon....everything about it made the hairs on my neck rise. Thanks for your post - I'll wait for a mail request!
Displayed ID is US Government but they forgot to leave a message. Probably the "Do Not Call" staff checking customer satisfaction.
I just had the exact thing happen to me. The older woman (65?) that called said she was from the SSA and wanted to know if I was self-employed in 2014. When I returned the call I received answering machine and left message. Then I Googled number 410-965-1234 and thank God this website is here!!! I may have given out information....Oh Lord Jesus thank you for your protection...
I wish there was a category for scam under call type. I got a call from this number at 4PM on a Saturday. This may very well be the number that is for the actual Social Security Administration but that is not necessarily the real number that they are calling from. It is called spoofing and one time is was shocked to see that I was calling myself. The caller number that was on my phone screen was the number at my home where the phone was ringing. So all you folks who say that really is the right number may be right, but who is really calling? Yesterday I got a call from the US Census Bureau and the message gave me a case number and said to call back because they are open 7 days a week. Really??? I didn't know any government office worked 7 days a week all the time. How convenient. I wonder what could be the problem...perhaps I fell off the census list and they need my information. The day before that my BFF Rachel from card member services called. She and her friend Heather have been calling for over 4 years now and they have to move all over the USA to call. In fact they may not even live in the USA. They may live with the nice people who work for Dell and Microsoft who are always so concerned about the wellfare of my computer and want to help me fix it. They were so shocked to learn that I didn't have a computer that they said what about a tablet or a phone. What did they think I was talking on and what does that have to do with either Dell or Microsoft? This scam is the same crappy stuff that the other mentioned calls are. They are all SCAMS and I hope that each and every scammer gets a front row seat in hell.
