Have been getting daily calls from this number to my cell phone while at work and never picked up - no message ever.Today I finally answered and the woman knew my name and if she could speak to me. I told her it was me speaking and she just said "thank you" and hung up...Really creepy
What You Need to Know:*The Do Not Call registry doesn't actually apply to non-profit organizations and this company calls exclusively on behalf of non-profits.*This company also calls on behalf of many non-profits. If you're getting multiple calls per day from this company, they may not necessarily be on behalf of the same organization -- either you've given to different organizations in the past or an organization you gave to rented your name to another organization.*When an organization acquires your name through a rented list, they only buy the right to call or mail it 1 time. However, if you respond favorably to their call or mailing (either by making a donation or by in a survey or taking some other sort of action like requesting more info), that organization has then legally acquired your name and it's theirs to use as often as they want.*The best way to keep yourself off of mailing and telemarketing lists is to tell the organizations you do wish to support not to rent or exchange your name. They are ethically bound to honor that request. Calling the telemarketing firm directly will ensure that you will also be put on the firm's do not call list, which means that you will NEVER get a call from that firm, regardless of which organization's list you show up on.
If this is connected to the WWF, I have donated to National Wildlife and Defenders of Wildlife, when I can. I do not want anymore calls from WWF, or any telemarketers connected to this. I won't answer them anyway. thank goodness for caller ID.These people are a nuisance. AND if I did want to donate I wouldn't now after all the nuisance calls.
I called the phone number. I was told that the president was on the phone but I could talk to the vice president. I told her about the calls and that they do not stop. She took my number and promised to stop the calls. Lets see what happens.
STOP CALLING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!They call constantly. Once in awhile when my callerID is not working, I answer and there is silence. They call constantly.
I have actually worked for Public Interest Communications for the past three years and there are a lot of misconceptions flying around here that I feel compelled to correct. First of all, we make no claim to be a non profit organization ourselves. PIC is totally transparent about being a for profit corporation. Second, we're not intentionally hanging up on you when you pick up. The automated predictive dialer we use has a delay of about two seconds before it connects the call to on of our stations. Thedelay exists because the dialer is attempting to differentiate answering machines from actual people answering in order to he as efficient as possible. Third, your favorite nonprofit organizations aren't able to maintain a sufficient budget from day to day without these phone calls. What do you do when you get mail or emails from an organization you support? Do you respond urgently or set it aside and let collect dust? Telefundraising is the only way organizations can get immediate results. And believe it or not we reach thousands of people every day who respond positively to phone solicitation and who understand the importance of it. Obviously an organization would not contract with us if we didn't greatly improve their budgets. We can raise tens of thousands of dollars for nonprofits every day. Fourth, we don't "take a cut" of your donation. Every NPO has a financial breakdown and a certain percentage going towards fundraising. They already set funds aside for mail and phone and online fundraising. Most organizations put less than 15% into fundraising, so our company is paid out of some small portion of that which the NPO has already set aside for fundraising. Finally, for the benefit of our clients, the organizations that you support because of the very important work they do, we have a policy of calling a number until we reach someone and get a confirmed decision, a yes or no. If you ignore the call every time, puzzling over what it might be about, you'll just continue to get calls each day until that particular phone campaign is over. Most campaigns last about three or four weeks. I hope that clears up a lot of the confusion and frustration I'm seeing here.
