I am in Canada and also get these calls regularly. Does anyone know how I can stop them?
These fools call our home often. In the past I told them I was not interested in what they had to say, and I would contact Microsoft myself. After about a month the calls started again. I do not answer. I have blocked their phone number on our phone.
This person has call several times always saying something different. First they say that they are from Microsoft and you have a virus or you got into a other scam. Then they tell you that they can give you your money back that this other company took from you. Then they want you to open up first a web page; then your bank account. Then they will take money from your account. Please watch. PS>> I did put my phone number on the "Do Not Call List' ; but see that can take up to 30 days to start. One last thing they will change numbers and tell you that they are from another company -- Example > HP or even Amazon.com
There are two ways to stop these calls --- One put them on the "Do Not Call list' Two-- hang up or Even third --Tell them that you Do not have a computer. Hope this will help.
I get the same thing from this number, other numbers and unknown number. This time he said his name was Martin from the technical department at Microsoft. Usually I go along with this scam, but never touch the computer and see if I can waste his time as I have lots to spare. Today I began by asking if there was some way to get off their calling list. He just hung up.They called my mother a few years ago when she was 93. Fortunately she did not fall for it.
Caller told me that based on messages received by him from my computer, my computer is at risk for viruses. He offered to help me fix my computer but then disconnected.
I received a phone call on my home number @ 11:49am today (Nov 25, 2013). The man asked for me by my first name. He had an Indian accent and identified himself as "John". He told me my mac computer had been compromised and was continually downloading a virus. He said he was wiling to walk me through the problem as they had been receiving reports about my computer. I asked him my address and he told me my street address. I asked him my computer address. He said a whole bunch of numbers really quickly. Don't know if they were correct as I wasn't near my computer. At this point he asked if it was turned on. (Funny it could be "continually downloading" if he didn't know if it was even turned on.) I told him to wait while I went downstairs. I sat down at my computer and asked him my serial number. He just said "that's your personal number ma'am for your computer." Then told me to look for the key beside the control key for the windows logo. Sorry, not one on this keyboard (and it came with my iMac). I told him this is f**king [***] and hung up.Thankfully I have call display. What came up is v112511-4455-0052425-668-9652I looked up the phone number. There are a various complaints. People also have said this number showed up as being from "Macintosh support", "Microsoft", "eSolving".I have reported it to Apple security.
Not the first time...they called and asked to talk to the house owner...then imformed me my computer was at risk and he was from microsoft and would hep fix it, and would I turn my computer on and follow his instructions..I told him where to stuff it and my comp. is fine...I googled the number...name unknowen...it said origiion was from Washington...assian voice and can't return calls...they obviously use internet calling to make their calls....We use gmail to phone, its free...you can't return calls....Beware its a scam...
