It is obviously profitable for these scammers to keep calling or they wouldn’t keep doing it. The Do Not Call list is not being enforced. The only way we can stop the scammers is by not answering the phone when they call. EVERYONE should have Caller ID. You should NEVER answer the phone if you don’t recognize the name or number. If it is actually someone you know, they will leave a message and you can phone them back. If they don’t leave a message, you can be sure it is a scam call. Do not try to call that number back for two reasons:1. It will let them know that it is a live number and they will sell your number to other scammers which will result in more calls.2. If the Do Not Call list is ever enforced, you will have no recourse since you initiated a call to that number. In addition to not answering, you can block unwanted calls. My Panasonic phones will let me do that. All I have to do is check the Missed Call Log and when a suspicious number is shown, press MENU, then go down to SAVE CID, then SELECT, go down to CALL BLOCK, then press SELECT, and then SAVE.I also purchased a Sentry 2 Call Blocker from Amazon for $59. It is probably one of my best investments. It has a 9,999 number capacity and is very easy to set up. You just plug it into your phone. There is no additional charge to your phone bill.It looks like it is totally up to us to stop the robo and unsolicited calls. So let’s band together and stop answering the calls. When it no longer becomes profitable, they will stop.
I received a call from this number on my land line. Let it go to the answering machine. No message left. I looked up the number and the area code isn't even valid!
Just received a call from this number. As with any number that I do not know, I never ever ever answer it. It can go to voice mail. If it is an important call, whoever is calling (that I don't know) will leave a message and I can call them right back. Even works for those you do know! There is no rule that says you 'have' to answer a phone call, especially if you have voice messaging.
Forgot to mention - have been on the DNC list since inception - and I too have noticed an increase in calls, especially within the last 6-9 months. I still fill out the FCC forms for these numbers.
482 is an invalid area code. Any calls originating from that area code are spoofed. Why don't phones allow us to block numbers by area code?
Just got a call from this number, thick accent and hard to understand. They told me my computer was being attacked by hackers. I asked for their company name and when they ignored me I asked if they were scammers looking for my credit card number. After a long pause the caller told me to f### off and hung up on me.
I am also on the DNC list. I was recently told about computer TOR program which can hide where you really are at. At work we have computer phones which works through your computer. I finally realized that all these calls are actually computer calls which is using this program. If these were US calls, they would know better to call us. Since most callers have had a foreign accent or spoke Spanish, the ID caller has shown many different states as well as DC. All of these calls are people trying to rob you blind. I read somewhere that most of the companies will not call individuals. It will be in the news if there's a problem. So far there is nothing that I am aware of to stop this. BTW, this goes for IRS also. It will be by mail only. Be careful to anyone who you talk to. They even will have your name sometimes. All are lies.
Received call at 9:18 September 14, 2015. Foreign accent, states he is from Windows. I stopped him there telling him that he is making an illegal call and that his business is illegal and it is a scam. He stated that what they are doing is illegal twice and then I hung up. I am so sick of these calls.
And get one of those call blocker units that you attach to your phone line. They are a little pricey, but might help with peace of mind. Unfortunately, our wireless and land line carriers severely limit the number of calls we can block. The call blocker units block hundreds of calls. Might be worth the price.
