Just tried calling this number back, and a recording came on saying " you've just called a non-working number. And yes I received a call earlier from a lady claiming to be a SSI investagator. And wanted my attorney's number, adj. CASE #, AND CLAIM # SEE I get all worked up over this kind of [***].
I have been dealing with this number for SS Retirement issues. It is a legitimate number for the Richmond Social Security Office.
My husband got a call this morning (Saturday) and a woman identified herself as someone from the Social Security Office. She said she was required by law to notify him that his benefits my be reduced because I applied for Social Security. He was caught off guard and he said the woman didn't ask him for any information, but he thought no one from SS would be calling on a Saturday since the sequester is in place. He tried to call the number back and got a "non-working number" message. Thinking this was a phishing call with no way to verify it with Social Security, we spent half the day putting security alerts on our banks and our credit. Now it appears this was a legitimate call, but the only thing that would affect my husband's SS is if I died so calling him with that info was silly. I am calling Social Security on Monday and if this call was legit, they are going to get a piece of my mind. They need a better system. With all the scams out there they have to know that this kind of call is only going to scare people. Had the incoming call indicated Social Security and been a legitimate 1-800 number that you could return the call, it would not cause panic. Now I have to go through extra security to access our bank accounts - and I still don't know why they would tell my husband his payment is going to be reduced - I was the Benefit's Officer for 15 years at the agency we retired from and that simply is not true. If I die it will affect his payment - but in a good way. Thanks Social Security - if you read this, please fix this process and stop scaring people.
Got a call from this number and spoke to a man from india and he said it was about my son's ssi so I told him I was his father but he would not talk to me and kept asking for his mother I again said that I was the husband and the boys father but he would not talk with me so I figured that if you can't talk to me about my own son then I feel that something funny is going on so I hung up and we do not return any calls. If ss wants us they can send us a letter.
I first received a call from 510-970-1100 the day after applying for Social Security retirement benefits. I Block 510* calls so I reviewed the logs associated with this number on this forum. Later I received an Email from this person. Still later I received a letter from this person. All the information checked out. I eventually called this person at a direct number on a separate phone and we compared information. While on my "separate" phone, she called me and that call ID showed "510-970-1100". I picked up before blocking and it was her. So, In my experience, it would seem that Outgoing calls from SSA in Northern California from Richmond, CA show up as "510-970-1100" and if allowed to leave a message(ie, not blocked), they leave a 877-772-3794 and extension number.I give this information to the forum for clarification of my experience only. I personally keep a log of all calls to my number via a DIGITONE Call Blocker and documented manually to my Excell SS that is now over 3yrs and 1200 separate individual bogus calls. This Free Forum has been very benifical to me! Thanks for all your participation!
received a phone from a woman identifying herself as an employee from social security asking for my wife. She told my wife she was due an increase in social security because I was retiring and needed to verify information i.e. ss# place of marriage birth date. We realized next day we where scammed so we red flagged and froze credit reporting. Notified our banks ans social security. Thw woman on the phone sounded so professional and asked the right questions.
Call said that they were from ss.....they wanted my routing #. I called my local ss # and they said that that is not a legit #.100% that this is a SCAM.
This number is a masking number to disguise our personal desk phone numbers so as to not receive call backs unless we ask you to. The Western Program Service Center is located in Richmond California and employees do call on overtime as it is a likely time to reach someone at home.
I received a call from this number from a "Mr. Brown" asking me to call Social Security between 8 and 4:30 Monday - Friday. When I tried calling this number back, I got a message that "this is a non-working number". Uh-huh...@Social Security employees have overtime---If you do, indeed, work for the SSA I have this to say to you: If you and your co-workers are going to call people on a holiday weekend Saturday (today is the day before Easter), then you should leave a call-back number so we who work all week can actually get in touch. If you're going to be there anyway, you may as well allow us to get in touch to take care of the business we may not have time for in your allotted hours during the week.
