Last week I received a call from 812-218-3144 from a very ignorant sounding woman claiming to be with the Census Bureau.I looked up the number on this site, and someone had reported that they also call from 520-798-4152 and 240-420-6029. Just now, 520-798-4152 came across Caller ID, and I ignored the call, No message was left.
They actually called again, today, in the morning. Mom took the call, it was a Spanish speaker. Recited an incorrect and unknown address, wanted my mom's s.s#, phone number confirmation, etc. Mom tore her a new a**hole. Asked her for a callback number that she for some reason couldn't come up with... you're the Census Bureau, what do you mean you have no call back number for your agency besides the bogus 520 on the call ID?The moment mom went into telling her they were scam artists, that she had family in law enforcement, that I also had friends who work within federal law enforcement agencies and that we were going to have them look into the matter of these phonecalls, and that I was getting ready to write a letter of inquiry to the Census Bureau, she told my mom it wasn't necessary for us to inquire or have anyone do anything, that they would never bother her again LOL!No calls tonight, we'll see about tomorrow and thereafter.
This is the third phone number that has called daily, claiming to the be from the US Census Bureau. They no longer leave messages. I called the main US Census Bureau line and forms haven't even been mailed to my zip code yet. The one time that I spoke to someone from the 'US Census Bureau' they directed me to a phony US Census Bureau website that ended in .org. The real site ends in .gov. Be very careful, these people are very slick and rattle off legal info about how US citizens are required to do the survey under title E law. Yet they cannot give you their employee id or supervisor's name, which is required by law. Blocked. Blocked. Blocked. If they come to my house I'll call the cops. The only way they'll get info from me is if I consider the form that is mailed at some point to my house to be legitimate. Also, there was no caller id from this number, just "Tuscon AZ". At least the other two numbers say US Census Bureau in the caller id.
This call is from the Census Bureau and it is for a survey called the "American Community Survey". You should have recieved forms in the mail.....28 pages worth of questions, very personal questions including what time you leave for work in the morning. It says your address was "picked at random". Do research on this survery, there is a lot of information on the internet. The phone calls are the 2nd phase of contact....the next phase includes showing up at your home. Flashes of Big Brother and 1984! It says you are mandated by law to answer the questions but fear should not be the a motivator for giving up your privacy!!
8 days later and this number, along with two others used by the census bureau, are harassing me daily. This one called twice today. Blocking them all, we mailed in their American community survey snd these call centers can stuff it.
I currently work at this tucson npc office. please excuse the lack of proper punctuation capitalization etc. too lazy. i want to debunk all of these ill-informed posts. the census conducts many surveys year round. not just the decennial census every 10 years. any form that is mandatory can be confirmed in a few different ways. the ACS or american community survey is mandatory but many others are voluntary. you can always verify the legitimacy of a survey by visiting census.gov. you can also confirm whether a caller is a census employee by going to the census employee search on census.gov or calling directory assistance and getting that persons specific office phone number and confirming it directly through directory assistance ie. tucson contact center (call center) Many of our interviewers have strong accents due to our need to support many different language needs throughout the US and Puerto Rico. some of our interviewers speak up to 6 languages and dialects. Because a local government employee hasnt heard of something doesnt mean it doesnt exist. i know you wouldnt call a plumber for an electrical issue in your home. so you shouldnt ask a totally unrelated government office to educate you on census bureau matters. if at any time you feel like someone is trying to take advantage of you i suggest by all means verify. but make sure you are doing so through the correct channels. social security numbers, bank numbers, and credit card numbers are not part of the American Community Survey. If anyone asks for these in a call over the phone for this survey i suggest you contact the census directly. if you dont have the phone number you can get it from census.gov.
