I received a call from DCS Inc. at 5:25 PM on June 21, 2007, from a woman named Lisa Bloom from Oregon. She claimed she got my name from directory assistance since she had been "trying for 3 months to reach her relatives, The ______ family." Directory assistance apparently provided my phone number since my street address was closeby. I mentioned to Lisa that they were my next door neighbors. Lisa claimed that when she dialed their number, she was always connected to a fax machine. I offered to look the number up in my local phone book and confirmed that the home phone number for the _____ family was correct. Lisa then proceeded to tell me a lot about the family such as the names of the kids and the one who liked to play soccer. So I figured that she must know them. I asked Lisa why she didn't simply fax them or write if she had failed to reach them by phone the past 3 months! She didn't respond to my question, but asked if I would pass them a note to have them call her. I asked if she wanted to provide a cell phone number or a home phone number, and Lisa responded by saying "no, they can just call me at work." I walked next door with the Lisa's name and phone number and mentioned that she had been having problems connecting with them. (1) Mrs. ______ had no idea who Lisa was, (2) she was definitely not a relative, and (3) they didn't know anyone from Oregon. Whether they called her back, I have no idea. But, if this is a collection agency, I am not too happy that they used me to contact a neighbor...
This is the 3rd call from them in the last couple of weeks. I won't pick up & they won't leave a message.
They are annoying, and persistent. I would take their call, but I really have nothing to say to them. It's about a bill that I don't believe I owe, but they're not there to argue, they're there to collect. This will go on until they give up, because I'm not paying.
Definetly a collection agency. It's so funny how they try to get me to call back. They act like there some girl i met at a bar or a club. just like "Hey its lisa gimme a call" Like she just woke out of bed. I did not meet a lisa at the bar her name was renee:) i had one named alicia too. Lucky my girl did'nt here these messages because i would have to call a collection agency to prove my innocence, which is worse than it actually being another girl. lol
Got a call a few days ago from this number, looking for my ex-brother in law, I told her she had the wrong number, don't know the person she is looking for. She calls back again today, and I told her the same thing. Decided to look up who they are and came upon this message board. Thanks for the information.
These people are calling my cell phone and trying to fax to me. probably 5 - 6 times a day. I did finaly send them an email as this is clearly a harrassment case. One time there was a threatening message that did not make sense, and I did not know what it was about. The number they gave me to call was not valid.
for all u "lawyer" types, if u are going to quote the law, at least paste and copy. dont try to memorize everything u read because u end up misquoting and passing along false info. For those of u who are being "harrased" by these companies, yea maybe after awhile they will "go away" BUT to those of u who owe student loans' even if they are 20 years old, they WILL NOT "go away". There is NO statute of limitations on government loans (ie; ALL STUDENT LOANS!!) and it is attached to your ss#. know what happens when u ignore a defaulted student loan? Your income taxes can and will be garnished along with 15% of your monthly pay untill the entire balance (plus back interest and collections costs) are paid in full or untill you agree to voluntary payments. couple years ago, i recieved calls constantly from a collection agency for my student loan from 20 yrs ago. i finally answered one day to see what they had to say. i was threatened that i would be garnished, sued.. the whole bit. after reading info on a couple sites like this one, i decided to follow that advise and ignore them. the calls did finally stop. then i recieved a letter from the same company (that i was told was fraudelent and full of crap) that i had less that 1 month to get into a pmnt program or else. or else what????? i still ignored them, what can they do, im in Texas and state law prohibits garnishment. Well I was wrong. no state prohibits garnishment on defaulted student loans. SOOOOOOO guess what, its been about 2 1/2 yrs and im still being garnished every month like clock work and every yr, they get my my nice tax return also. needless to say, i havent had a vacation in a couple yrs, as my tax return is what paid for vacations!!! and why did all this happen?? well my own stupidity for not pay the loan back in the 1st palce, but mainly i think, because people talk about things that they really have no knowledge of, for instance the law.. we all know that collection agencies are like mosquitos, we just want to squash them,. but word to the wise, if u are being harrased by a collection agency and you have a student loan, even if it is 20 yrs old. take them seriously. it is against the law for a collection agency to say they are going to garnish or sue you unless they really can. so if u are told that you are going to be garnished or sued, i would look into a little bit further than just reading stuff thats posted on sites like this. read section 3720D of the debt collection improvment act. its mundane but basically says, YES, you can and WILL be garnished without the collection agency having to go to court first. it happens in a matter of months. and once it happens, no lawyer can help!
We've received about 20 calls from this number in the past 2-3 months (got one today at 19:30 p.m. GMT). We've never answered the phone, because we don't know who they are (gotta love Caller ID). We appreciate this posting to inform the rest of us that it is a bogus situation. We'll continue to 'ignore' the call.
another thing i recently learned, disability and social security can also be garnished up to 15%. isnt that about right, they give it to you, only to take it right away!!
This number has been calling my cell phone for 3+ years. I have never answered once. Today, "Amy" left a voicemail asking me to call her at 209-858-3678. This is a Manteca, CA number, which is the DCS branch in the area. As mentioned above by Jeff, she left me a message like she was my wife. I say we all give "Amy" a call and see how she likes it.
