I received a missed call from this number 623-492-4000. I returned the call not knowing who it was. A person answered and said it was American Express. They asked for identity info which I didn't provide as it seemed strange. I asked the person who identified herself as "Nicole" to verify that she was indeed from American Express and she simply said, "This IS American Express, I can't help you if you don't provide the info". I told her I would call the number on my card to find out what this was about. Amex confirmed this number is not theirs, and it's certainly a phishing attempt.
Received a call from 623-492-4000 and a voicemail message left saying this is Mel Webber from American Express calling, please call me back as soon as you can at 855-541-6622. Called Amex customer service directly and they said it was not a call from them about my card - nothing on the account and they track all calls made on accounts. I have no intention of returning the call.
Hi this is Mel Webber and I am a W-2 employee with Americxan Express. I work in the Phoenix, AZ office. If you call 1-800-528-4800 which is a US based customer service line and provide them my full name, Melvin Richard Webber, they can verify my employment. They can also ping me an Instant Message on my computer.
The 623 492 4000 number is a American Express number for the Phoenix area. It is legit and can be verified via the number on the back of your card / number on the website. If you received a call , you can call the 800 number left for you back and get the representatives full name. Call the customer service number online/ back of your card and ask to be connected to that representative.
According to the people at the Amex phone # on the back of my card this is NOT AMERICAN EXPRESS calling. My caller ID picked up the number as 623-492-4000, and "Cody Klein" left a call back number of 855-431-6072. NEITHER OF THESE NUMBERS ARE NUMBERS FROM WHICH AMERICAN EXPRESS PLACES CALLS. It is a scam - do not either answer or provide any information to people calling or leaving these numbers.
a man called asking if our company takes american express. a customer wants to pay his bill with american express. i always tell them no we do not take american express. he hangs up rather quickly. a scam. do not give information. hang up on them real quick.
I put the department on this case as the caller has been using a 'number disguise' device, and annoying people with his 'silence' when the call is answered.
Received a call from this number. Left a voice mail for me to call back Tom Koogle (sp?) at his direct number 888-508-5662. Called the original number - young woman answered American Express. Asked for Tom Koogle. She had trouble finding him in the directory and asked if I had an account with Amex. Told her only through Costco and offered to transfer me. I hung up. Did a web search for this number and found this posting site.
Actual call came from 623-492-4000 but description said the call came from 602-537-9012. Caller identified himself as from American Express and wanted to check up on services. Asked if we had any concerns, questions, etc... At one time he asked for the last 4 digits on the account which I declined to give him as I didn't trust that he was actually from AmEx.
This number was legit for me. Problem is anyone can spoof a number. Best bet would be to thank them for the information and call the number on the back of your card. After panicking from the posts about this site I called AMEX number on the back of my card and they confirmed the account had been set up, just as described by the guy calling from this number. He had way too much information on my identity, and did not ask me to provide any information, just confirm.
