Same old computer scam.

R'ced call from this number but did not answer the phone, if I do not know or recognize the number I do not answer.Hate being disturbed by them.

Torrington police are warning residents of a phone scammer who attempts to gain remote access to the victims’ computers and steal their personal information. Police said the scammer has called anonymously from the number 646-612-3456

Foreign woman with a thick accent called at 9:41 p.m. When she asked how I was doing, I told her that I was getting ready to go to bed and asked why she was calling so late. She said she was with Microsoft Global Tech Support and they work 24/7. She told me that hackers had infected my computer and that she needed to log on and fix it. I've gotten bogus phone calls like this in the past, so I played along, asking all kinds of silly questions like which computer it was, what type of computer it was, and what was the OS. She kept saying it was a Microsoft computer. She said it was networked to her computer and she had gotten an error message from my computer. She also gave me some crazy "ID number" and when I told her that I didn't understand how to figure out which computer it was with the ID number she gave me, she laughed and said she couldn't help me if I didn't know how to figure it out and then hung up. It was obviously a scam, but she had my first and last name and my full address (which can easily be found by doing a Google reverse search on my phone number). So I can understand why some people fall for these scams, when they seem to have all the right information.

I just got this call at 7:27 am on a Saturday morning. Grrrrr. Since I don't know anyone in NYC, I didn't answer. Thanks to all the posters here, I'm glad I didn't. I own an iMac, so having a Microsoft "virus" on my computer isn't likely.
