I was told that my IP address had been used for illegal purposes and I had to change it. I was told to download Supremo which allows brief dual access - scary - don't allow dual access. I confessed my suspicion that he was a scam and he applauded me and tried to explain not. I related a similar experience in which "DGPL" got me to pay for such a service. He went on to say that DGPL is endorsed by Microsoft...and I hung up. Microsoft never calls people about such things. The man with a think Indian accent called repeatedly until I lost my temper. Delete Supremo, uninstall anything installed during that call, then run CCleaner, Malwarebytes, etc.
Strange message started with waiting for the next service rep will soon be available, and then an hello repeated. Sounded like a recording. Looks like another scam.
This scam got my parents who did send money. They are in their 70's-80's and the caller identified himeself as their grandchild (my nephew) and because he never calls them they fell for it. It's a pathetic, sad world in which we live. If the perps are not abusing animals, women and children, they are scamming elders. And they get away with it unless they, the criminals, are stupid enough to brag about their crimes on Facebook which has, ironically, become one of the best law enforcement tools in modern history.
OMG, I would have cracked up laughing at that point. If you want to get [any] of them off the phone, start laughing. Seriously folks, why would anyone trust an unknown caller who has just admitted that they have hacked your computer ? Microsoft is not that hands-on of a company and it's unlikely (completely unlikely) that anyone from Microsoft would cold-call you personally and offer to help you fix your computer. that's what Windows Update will do for you as will any of your downloaded Utility programs, automatically. Seiman's is a reputable mega-company which also would not make a personal, cold-call to you to discuss your computer issues.
Up to 12 sections of complaints on this number should be a red flag. I called number back and the number is disconnected. Also ,The spoofed number has a caller ID name of Siemens uh that name alone is obvi !!!!!!!!Clark Howard is warning right now of caller ID spoofing ! It's the trend everyone .
why does anyone answer calls from someone they don't know from unfamiliar area codes and then stay on the line with someone you don't know unless you have close friends in India who have just hacked your computer and are offering to help you ? If you have caller ID use it - if you don't recognize the number or name listed don't answer the call. Let them leave you a voice mail message , check out the number here and call back if you so choose. That said, unless you have a personal relationship with Bill Gates or any of his associates, no one at Microsoft is going to reach out to you and offer to help you justifying it by admitting they have just hacked your computer and noticed that you had some problems.
Same here. I immediately returned a missed call from 703-272-4699 and got a recoding that the number had been disconnected. Scammers.
You've just come up with the best solution, don't take the call. If you take the call and some stranger who's just admittedly hacked your computer and wants to help you, hang up and report it to the FCC.
