This is not a scam. I have a loved one incarcerated in Texas. The number belongs to Global Tel Link as many have stated above. You do have to set up a prepay account with them to accept collect calls from the indiviual incarcerated. If you know someone in jail then this isn't a scam and if you want to talk to that individual person this may be your only option when they try to contact you. The "potential" scam part is when another inmate is near your loved one when the call is placed and they either write down your number or memorize it. Not all inmates are dumb. Usually most are pretty intelligent. When they have your number that is when they use the fake info of family emergency or whatever and ask you to give the *72 number which entitles them to make calls using your number leaving you with the charges. So the number above is not a scam but the potential for scam lies with intelligent inmates. If you know someone incarcerated and it doesn't just have to be in Texas then don't fear this number however be cautious and don't ever use *72. It's really not that big a deal.

People anybody you know that is in a county, state, or federal correctional institution can call you from this same number!!! It is not a scam, it is not a specific camp! If you answer the phone and say hello it tell you you have a collect call from ___ at ____ correctional facility! If you would like to accept this call press 0 blah blah blah.... it isn't a big deal they even tell you press ____ # to refuse this and further calls from ____ && yes I know alot about this because my ex-husband is in a Fl institution and call to speak to his kids several times a day! to my cell and house

Just got a call from this number, saying it was from the San Francisco Jail. I called the jail directly, and they said they do not handle outgoing calls in that manner. Sounds like a scam to me.

Thanks for your post! I just got a call from there...and they said Family Emergency. I did not accept and they called back. I don't know anyone in TX. If they call again, I am blocking it. Will that affect someone from my state being able to call me?

Same thing. Called me 5 times. Collect call. I accepted it by pressing 0 or 9. Global Tel 713-981-009. Some man telling me about a DUI and inmate whatever. Lots of background static. Could barely hear the man. Wanted me to write down a telephone number. Did not do it. Hung up on him. Kept calling back. Looks like I will be charged for a collect call. Always enter *73 AFTER hanging up. Never dial the number he gives you and never dial *72. Hang up and than pick up your phone and dial *73.

This number called at 2315 local and said it was a call from an inmate at men's central jail.WTF would an inmate be doing on the phone at 2215?If it was an emergency, I'd get a call from the sheriff.
