Recvd a call on my cell from this # this afternoon, didn't answer. Unlike so many here, I've actually had *good* luck with both the Federal Do Not Call and State Do Not Call Lists- but you have to be registered on *both* in order to decrease the likelihood of recving junk calls. Obviously, it hasn't been working well for everyone, but for some reason it *did* eliminate most junk calls to my cell and land. *And* you have to re-register every six months to a year for either both or one of them- can't remember which. I guess I've just been lucky..
For your information the caller ID numbers are spoofed - that is, fake. The Do Not Call List is a useless joke. Many companies actually buy the list (yes, they have to pay for it) and place calls from it because they know the numbers are valid.
No message left To report unwanted phone #s is about as effective as reporting them to Taco Bell and the No Call List Federal/State is also worthless
I have been getting calls from various numbers with the same message about lowering my credit card rates. While I have no doubt that this is a scam, I am wondering if these calls are a direct result to a family member who lived with me that had bad credit. I believe this for two reasons-1) Some time after he moved out I was stuck getting phone calls from companies/ collection agencies that he owed money to. 2) I have had a couple of numbers in years gone by where I was getting calls from collection agencies looking for people I never heard of. One of these calls was for a secured credit card that could be used to pay off a debt. When the debt was paid off, it would become an unsecured card.Needless to say I was forced to change my number because of irresponsible people. Now I am getting calls on a number that I never had an issue with until relative moved in. So I can't help but to wonder if this is another agency looking for him by using dirty tactics.
Bullet,You can block the number. Here are your options: (1) Get a phone which has built-in call blocking (some Panasonic models, probably others). (2) Use a free Google Voice account, and forward your phone through it. (3) Move your phone service to a good VOIP provider with meaningful call blocking features. Take a look at Callcentric to see what I mean. There are other ways, but these are approaches almost anyone can do.As for the folks here who keep ranting about using the DNC list. These callers are criminals. Criminals tend to have very little respect for the rules. Politicians have created the DNC as an unenforceable sop to fool the public into thinking they addressed the problem.Like everything else in life, you are really on your own. Governments are problems, not solutions.
I received a phone call and it did not identify who was calling and that my credit cards were ok but I could lower my rate. I wanted to see who was calling so I pressed one and after about 5 mins on hold i was connected to an operator who asked about my information and that I needed 5000 or more on my credit card to qualify, did I think I had that much. I replied wouldn't you know you called me and I am do not know which company this is that is calling. He hung up quickly.
