I received a call from 800-239-7054 Capital One Fraud Dept--A few days after receiving my new Capt one business card. They wanted the entire card # last 4 digits of the social & date of birth. They said there were some concerns... Then they placed me on hold and came back with 3 more questions--- name one of 3 vehicles I had purchased, which state was my SS number issued in and did i apply for a credit card. After answering the questions, they released the hold and activated the card.
I received a voice mail from a woman named "Tameka" stating that she was calling from Capital One Fraud Dept. wanting to confirm a recent credit application and to call her back at 1-800-239-7054, ext 4542835.
Phone message that said to call this number. I called & was told someone was trying to apply for a Capital One credit card in my name. I was given a very long case number. Unfortunately I did verify a little bit of information before I thought to check the Capital One website for the phone number. I don't think it was enough to help anyone with fraud but I am worried.
Update to previous post: I called the Capital One 1-800-955-7070 from their web site and this was a legitimate notification of potential fraud. Be careful, though. There are always potential scammers out there.
I received the same call and I was skeptical because I was just approved for a Capital One credit card but I haven't received it in the mail yet so I didn't think someone could have stolen my card or obtained my information so I thought they wanted me to call them back on the number to phish for my information. When I called they asked for my ENTIRE social security number so I immediately said "No thanks I'll wait until my card arrives." Usually credit card companies can verify your ID with just the last 4 digits. If this is to verify your identity then when you receive your card in the mail there should be a sticker on it with a number to call to activate your card. It will probably be the same number. I DO believe this is a legitimate Capital Fraud Protection number because it is listed on the Capital Website. However, I was a little skeptical especially since they wanted my whole SSN. If not then it used to be a Capital One fraud number but no longer in service for them and a fraud company decided to use it and Capital One hasn't updated their website. The best bet is for everyone to just call the number on the sticker placed on the card in the mail.
I received call today and a man stated he worked for Capitalone and wanted to verify some info regarding my credit card application, I told him I've never applied Capitalone credit card. The man told me hold a moment then lost connection. Be careful, this crimal action is still going on.
On 1 March Jeanie called from 1-800-239-7094 (accordning to the caller-id) supposedly from Visa Capitol1 re: credit card giving 4 digits from a card from a different bank. The call was made to my home phone located in a state on the east coast not to the phone number where I am on the west coast. Therefore, I learned about this call in May. I called the number shown on the caller-id and received this message: Talk to Fun people at 800-24-4400. I have cancelled my newly issued CAP1 card. My app for the card did not show the number that was called so from where did it come? Perhaps one of the 3 credit bureaus?????. I did not query 1-800-239-y054 I queried 1-800-239-7094 and look here comes this site.... Perhaps this should be reported not only to Capitol 1 but the three credit bureaus and also the Federal Trade Commission.
Three calls leaving messages purporting to be from Capital One Fraud Department. Calls from Emmanuel and Tamika wanting a return call to identify my phone number when call is returned. Calls on April 8-9. Never returned calls.
