I found this to be a valid number after calling Cap One. Everyone I talked to was professional and business like. They didn't do any needless butt kissing. Maybe those that said they were unprofessional were looking for a butt smooch or two. I just personally don't need the extra validation. I appreciate the fact that Cap one wanted and felt they needed the extra validation. .. Thanks Cap OneFeelin Safer.
Received a call from "Unknown" on my iPhone. I let it go to voicemail. They said to call back at 800-239-7054. They provided a 14-digit "Case Number" after stating that there was some suspicious activity on card ending in ****.What's funny is that I just applied for a capital one card over the weekend and haven't even received my card yet. Smells like fraud to me.These scammers are basically looking to get your credit card # and your SSN. Do not give it to them if you get a call inbound (going TO your phone). The scammers have likely spoofed their # to appear legit coming from the Capital One Fraud Department. If you call the # on the back of your card going outbound, you should be safe.
hey everyone, this IS a legit capital one number (1-800-239-7054). i got a phone call and a letter directing me to this number. i had just requested a credit card online and had received it in the mail. i called this number first and when they asked me for information, i felt unsafe so hung up. i then called the capital one number on the back of my card. they did tell me there was a hold on my card and then transferred me to those exact same people. i talked to them and they asked for my full name, birthdate, last 4 of SSN, what car i drove, what state issued my SSN. they NEVER asked for my credit card number or my full SSN.
I got the same guy calling my hose for the past 2 weeks. I originally called capital the general number and they couldn't find anything on the number or my record. Then I called the Fraud dept directly and gave them the reference number I had ask for over the phone. Turns out this is legit. There was suspicious activity and someone from another state was trying to open a card with my info. [***]!!! So yeah, it helps to check with capital one. NEVER give out your SSN over the phone and always ask for a reference number.
My husband received a call from this number asking to call them back about some fraudulent activity. I checked the Capital One site itself and this number is listed under their Fraud Protection department. It is most definitely a legit number.
Before I used my CapitalOne, I called to activated it. I used it on a Saturday. Sunday they called my home phone and their agent butchered my name so bad that my wife said that no one lives here by that name. When I setup my online profile with CapitalOne, I found out they had placed a restriction on my new CC. I called the number on the back of their CreditCard about it. Besides being on hold for most of the time, the person I was eventually transferred to was giving me the run around and would not tell me what I needed to do to lift the restriction. So I hung up on the person. I called the next day and I finally got to a person who told me that I needed to go to a bank and show that bank a government ID and have that bank call them at 800-239-7054 to verify that I am not impersonating myself. SO MUCH for NO-HASSLE!!!
