Call was from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield regarding a Care Consultant Program which we get automatically on our insurance. They left message and said to call back at 866 541 9840. I called back, they wanted to ask health questions and said they did "pre-consulting" before I went to the doctor or hospital, and wanted to know all my health care info. I politely said I wasn't able to answer. My husband's company every year has some kind of program that is specifically meant to lower THEIR costs. Frequently they are trying to mine health data, and last year they literally told people in company meetings to stop going to the doctor and to put off health care. I think this Program is this year's version of that, so I won't be participating. We pay a few thousand dollars a year for this insurance and even with two E.R. visits and one surgery over the last 12 years, we have still paid in more than we have gotten in benefits. I don't like being treated like I'm a leech who needs to be monitored by a special program, and I don't want to tell some stranger over the phone all my medical history.
It was Anthem Blue Cross, or someone they contracted, but if anyone believes they are calling to help you, you deserve to be scammed. Even if it is legit, don’t give them information on an unsolicited call. If you’re interested, ask them to send their questions in the mail. You can’t be toooo careful.
314-555-2303 keeps calling repeatedly. The v/m it leaves states that it is Anthem BCBS (which we already have :-/) When I call the number back, it is disconnected??
Actually having worked for a program like this and there are a lot of misconceptions about what they do. 1) they are separate from the claims department and the info you provide them is not used against you when determining benefits, 2) they have several programs such as new mother, wellness programs for preventative health and monitoring to promote better health, 3) they call for pre-pp to surgery and follow up after discharge for surgery or most hospital visits to try to promote read missions to the hospital, 4) offer specific disease education programs for diseases like CHF, diabetes, heart disease, asthma, and COPD, 5) offer a 24 hour nurse line; and more. So really if this was Anthem and in my case it very well could have been because they have been trying to reach me, they are legitimate and are not trying to scam you out of your health information. Because really what are they going to do with your gangrene of your toe because you didn't take care of your blood sugars and didn't see a doctor and you developed a sound that got so infected now it's rotting and falling of. So that said, if they say they are Anthrm, get their number and call them back if you don't trust them or call the nurse hotline on the back of your card and get transferred to them that way. Stepping of my soapbox now.
Nurses are from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. I already have their insurance. Mainly about health maintenance.
Caller ID "unavailable" Called March 2014, 2015 & 2x 2016 (I keep a DNC list). Previously, no message left. This last time I picked up-it was a Robocall since it took 5 sec for real person to start talking. Reports above say it is BCBS wellness plan. If legit, why caller ID Unavailable? I got legit calls (not an 800 #) from BCBS wellness plan people, caller ID indicated Anthem Blue Cross, and they always left a message who they were and a number I could call them back (not this #). This sounds like a scam.
This is one exasperating number, persisting for like ten years now? The Anthem BC/BS website says ONLY about recent fraud activity "The call will show up on your caller ID as if it’s coming from the HHS OIG hotline number: 1-800-447-8477." So, they neither confirm nor deny the 800-405-1806 number here; their Tech Assistance number is listed as 1-866-755-2680, which is not the number folks here report as the call-back number left as a message. So, despite this number creating at least confusion, if not potential identity compromise, for years now, Anthem has not taken the time to add a brief half-page to their website, clarifying whether or not these numbers here are or are not legitimate, and how to distinguish the one from the other. We just spent five minutes speaking with some person on the assumption the call was legit, but finally got tired and politely said "bye-bye." Listening to the answers being given, I could not tell what the questions were, but I kept waiting to hear if there was going to be an "aha" moment, where the entire call was really setting up for private info like S.S. no or credit card, etc. 'Spoofing' allows any call to appear with any desired number or ID, so that info is never going to separate fake from legit calls. Some help here, Anthem?
CID said Toll free call. Said they were with Anthem. Called Anthem and asked if that number was associated with them. Anthem said No.*** BEWARE ***
