Desperate people with no education or skills trying to make money for doing essentially nothing other than offering ways to take your money. Sort of crazy. It's basically attempted mugging by phone call.
After a couple of years of dealing with all these shysters, I've gotten pretty good at recognizing the scam and spoofed numbers at least 98% of time. So a few weeks ago I started answering these types of calls with,"........... County Sheriff's Department, Sgt. Gomez." To date, I haven't had one caller reply. Every call usually results in an immediate disconnect, and I'm hoping at least some them take immediate action to remove my number from their call lists. Of course, I also search the number here and add it to my blocker.
800 number (business or commercial) that calls & doesn't leave msg is ALWAYS suspect. Blocking!
Same as Jack Sprat as far as this I called 800-423-4343, "one hears an automated voice message informing you that you have reached "AT&T Universal Card." You are then instructed to either say or enter your credit card number. If you are told your number is "incorrect," you are then instructed to enter your full Social Security number." I called the number, yea like I am going to give you my information, I guess some do.SCAM for sure
the scam, they call asking me for my bank account number, my social security number these people think that I was a fish with his mouth open to be caught. but I did not fall for the bait.beware
Its a credit card auto-dialer. "This is your last chance to lower your rates". So I pressed 1 to speak to a live person and ask how i get my number removed since they call multiple times a day. The middle-eastern sounding man explained that first i need to kiss his @$$, then I can go fvck myself. He then abruptly hung up. Perhaps its a stretch on my part, but I'm guessing this isn't a legit enterprise ;)
Called about my credit card balance, I asked him what card. I told him I have only use one card with zero balance. I told him I was not interested and hung up.
Number came through on our home phone (yes, we still have one; call me old-fashioned). Didn't answer.
