Just got a miss call from them. I didn't pick up. I googled it up and landed here. I do have an Ebay account....not sure if it's ebay or not.
Received a few calls from eBay from this number in the past couple months. One time, they left a message informing me of upcoming fee changes and to recommend I open an eBay Store (I am currently a PowerSeller & Top Rated Seller). No harm, no fraud, just annoying.Sign in to eBay. Go to My Ebay. Select the Account tab. Click Notification Preferences. Scroll all the way down to Promotions and Surveys and click "show." Uncheck the box by Phone Updates and Promotions. Click Save. Ta-da! No more eBay promo phone calls!
I've gotten a couple of calls from this number this month, it does say Ebay on my caller ID but when I answer it's a recorded message saying to check my messages, that there was a problem with a payment (I haven't won anything since Dec. and I'm not selling anything either) when i check my messages, there is nothing there. I'm not sure what the deal is.
I received a call today as well. From my research, I found that it IS indeed a scam. ebay's website does not provide a contact phone number, and if they did, it would not start with area code 801. Plus, the guy on the phone was trying to reel in information from me the moment I answered. Those commenting above who say this is number is credible could very well be lying. So prove it. Where's your proof?????
i got a call at 7:20 pm on my cell phone on 4-11-10 the # is 1-801-545-1800 i looked it up its from salt lake city utah ebay ,but did not answer my phone. is this legitimate does ebay call there customers. thank you hector
It is legit. It's ebay's outbound number. I had to confirm my identity while in a chat with them today. I initiated the chat, they called on the number on my account to confirm and the caller id showed this number.
Thats why I make them give me information on my account that the public does not have access to like my current account balance or something. I set the questions and put them on the defensive.
It is Ebay !!!! Just got off the phone with them.they called about my application for a job I applied too.!

When you answer the phone they hang up. They are trying to see if the number is actually associated with a person or not. Most likely they will clone the number.
This number called the other day didnt answer as I didnt recognize the number. Turns out my hunch was right another spam caller. It's the only calls I get nowadays
