This is Capital One Calling to Collect a Debt. DO NOT ANSWER. In this economy, debt collectors can go screw themselves. Keeping the Mortgage paid and food on the table is more important than paying unsecured lines of credit.Ask yourself which is important... A roof over your head or good credit score?
Should not have signed up for a Credit Card you did not intend to pay. Should have thought of that BEFORE you signed a commitment.
"This number has called multiple times over several days, early in the morning through late evening. The last call went to voicemail and left a message full of static and a female voice that wasn't understandable as it kept fading in and out."I got exactly the same thing—heavy static, not understandable, maybe female and faded in and out.
This caller has left two messages but called a total of 11 times in the last 2 days. They claim to be Capital One but I have serious doubts about that. The messages refer to deals through the credit company but I've been with them for a long time and they have only ever used mail and e-mail to send me offers. I have the feeling it's a scam.
CB wrote: "Yeah, so I forgot to pay my bill. Capital One called me. I went online and paid the bill. No more calls. Pay your freakin bills and you won't get phone calls either, whiners. It isn't that complicated."It's very rare for credit card companies to call if you forgot to pay a bill. They love it when you forget to pay bills. Not only do they get to charge you a late fee, they usually can raise your interest rate, sometimes to almost 30%. They don't like it if you don't pay several months in a row, and would probably send letters and call them, but not usually for one late payment. It's probably a coincidence that the calls stopped since it doesn't appear to be a Capital One number, but someone posing as Capital One. Just because a voicemail says it's Capital One doesn't mean a thing. Only a genuine number from Capital one can be trusted.
We just got a call from this number. They represent themselves as Capital one but because they seemed to be a non-English speaking sales company for Cap. One. The problem is that there are so many fraudulent numbers out there it's hard to say who to trust. This person asked for my husband and an alternative phone number. I said if this is truly a cardholder service call you would have the ACTUAL telephone number listed on the card. Which is not our home number ... only his business numbers. The person on the other end said we have no other numbers ... well, then you are a sales person or fraudulent. Paranoid yes, last year there was a number that called our house that was a spoof number of our real bank and said there was an overdraw on our account. I knew that was not possible at that point. I did not call back the number I called my bank number on my statements. They said it was good I did that. Our account was Not overdrawn and it was a fraudulent spoof number that customers had been calling back and these scammers were cleaning out their bank accounts. I guess what I am saying is beware and even if they leave a number and message - please call the number on your statement or card :)
