Your being judgment proof won't stop them from filing suit but would give you a "nothing to lose" platform others can only dream of.

If you know the number is Portfolio calling, and you're tired of the harassment, you should always answer this way: Hello, this is (Your Name) on a recorded line. Use only a first name, and there's no need for it to be your real name. They are calling YOU, so they are not allowed to say anything nasty to you, and they know it; since they are calling YOU, you can say whatever you want to them. If they get all pissy, you just remind them, "You called ME, I do not have to tell you anything," and/or "You called ME, you are legally obligated to give me your full information," such as full address and company name. You can also remind them that they are acting as an agent, so if they lie, they are binding Portfolio Recovery as their principal to whatever illegal act they commit. I recommend actually recording the calls, but answering in this manner puts them on notice immediately, so that if it ever were to go to court, there would be absolutely no way to argue that you violated any law by recording the call (which is actually legal in most places even without telling them).

8:24 am and these people are calling me already---- they never leave a message and these calls keep coming through out the day till about 8:30 pm--my debt is over 9 yrs old and have been dealt with .....or so my lawyer informed me ;-(

Got a call from this number, did not reconize the number did not ans. They did not leave a message.

Let me start off by saying that I do not owe any money to anyone. Now, that being said...My phone is full of blocked numbers for Portfolio Recovery. I literally cannot store any more numbers to block, and 90% of them are for Portfolio Recovery. They have called as early as 7AM and as late as 11:30PM, 7 days a week, although not very often on Sundays. I have written them DOZENS of letters demanding to be put into direct contact with the original lender so as to bypass their involvement, and dozens more letters demanding they provide PROOF of the debt. Included in every one of these letters has been the dates and times of each call for each number. I started sending the letters over a year ago and have yet to receive ANYTHING from them. But once they get a letter they do seem to stop calling from the numbers provided, only to start up immediately calling from new numbers.How the F%&# can this be legal? They KNOW that I don't owe them (or even the original lender) any money, they KNOW that what they are doing is harassment, and yet still they call. They call because for every 20 people that stand up to them, one person is just too scared to fight back and simply gives them their banking number over the phone, and that one person pays for all of those who fight back. It's such a scam and there seems to be nothing anyone can do about it.For those who post things like "keep them on the line and mess with them, it's fun!", it's not. Once you initiate contact with them, they will never leave you alone. And I honestly don't believe that they have to pay for the calls for as long as you're on, or if they do then that cost is offset by how much they are pulling in by scare tactics on those who fall for it.I have been over and over the FTC's website, and it seems all that we can do is to send them registered letters (which adds up to a lot of money for this one company alone) and that's it. There doesn't seem to be anything about the same company calling from different numbers that are registered to different area codes throughout the country. Bottom feeding scumbags. I'm not one to stoop to violence, but I would seriously love to have 5 minutes alone in a room with this company's CEO. I have honestly never wished harm to any other human being more than I have this individual. Seriously, how do some people sleep at night?

Good luck everyone but Steve need braces for his kids. It's a shame they took the pictures down of their staff. Some of Steve's VP are just absloute MILFS. Yummy. Oddly enough their job is to shake down people for money that is only owed to them because they went out and bought a debt. they call peple over and over harrassing them at every turn making idle threats and making the people they are chasing lives a living hell but turn around and voluteer to the United Way out there to make peoples lives better? I bet when they signed up for the United Way they didn't tell them they were really scumbags who makes peoples lives misserable for their own profit. BTW....PRAA (Yeah they got a stock symbol) Will send letters out all the time saying you owe money and they wil cut you a deal. If it's not a registered letter with proof of delivery, ignore it. If it goes to court, just say you never got the letters and PRAA can't prove it, just like the debt they say you owe.I've gone to court once with their lackie 3rd party lawyer they hired and won and yet they are comming after me again. I say bring it on, I prefer a straight up court battle where the burden of proof is on the person filing the complaint not the defendant.I wish PRAA good luck and wish Steve would share his hot wife with me. She's tasty.
