unwanted call

I keep getting calls on my cell and home number never leaving a message. I have never actually answered the phone call for they call when i am at work. If we all report them to the attorney general I think the more complaints the more helpful it is to the attorney generals office.

Tired of them calling.

Someone more adept than myself at such things needs to create an iphone / android app that updates this number list and immediately sends calls to the "doo -dee-doo" sound followed by "this number is no longer in service" voice mail.Any savvy hackers out there?

This can be a never ending cycle with recovery companies. Many of you may already be aware but companies such as Portfolio Recovery buys up deliquent debts or in most cases debts that have been written off. For example if you had a Master Card with Chase Bank and you were unable to pay or did not pay, and Chase was unable to collect. The debt is sold, say the debt was $5K, Portfolio buys it for $5 to $7 hundred dollars. Portfolio will contact the debtor make out like you are being offered a great deal to payoff this original $5k debt for $3-4 thousand. If you settle with Portfolio and do not receive legal documentation that the original amount has been satisfied Porfolio can then sell off the difference between the settlement amount and the orginal debt amount to another collection company (most likely a subsidiary of Portfolio). The sad part is if you contacted Chase Bank and wanted to do the "Right Thing" settle for the original debt amount you would be told the debt had been sold and you would need to settle with the collection company which now holds the debt.It would be great if everyone that is being harrassed by Portfolio could join forces and have a law firm represent them collectively, pro-bono. Better yet legislation should be passed to prevent this type of activity.

If you have an Android phone, I have been using an app named Call Control. It's $6.99 for the "Pro" version an works excellently for blocking calls. Also, they already have a ton of numbers built in, so if any of those numbers call you they are automatically blocked. There is a "community" that enters any numbers THEY get, so the numbers are then added to the blocking list.

No wonder they are going after people for old accounts that have been written off.With all those phone numbers that they have, they need a way to pay for all of those phone lines and the new phone lines that they will add soon so that they have a differant number to use again to harrass us all.

You may want to call the AG office again. They may be able to call you but you are under no obligation to pay.
