They call EVERY DAY! I finally answered today. [***] asks for my husband. "He is working, this is his wife", I say. [***] asks if our complicated last name is pronounced like @#$@#$XX. I say, "No, it's not". [***] then asks how to pronounce it. I reply, "You call every day and we don't answer. We don't know you. What do you want?" [***] HANGS UP in the middle of my question lol. Very annoying. Caller id says "Portfolio Recovery". We don't have a portfolio.
For the past months or so, I've been receiving calls from these morons saying I owe a debt that I know nothing about. They refused to send me anything in writing, but wanted my bank routing number. I told them to go butt a stump and hung up. Just got another call - on a Sunday afternoon - which I did not answer.I looked up my credit report and see nothing related to Portfolio. If it is not on my credit report, am I correct to assume that they really are crooks?
PRC Portfolio Recovery Co, calling on an old HSBC account from 2003, long out of date. they dont even bother to send letters. There are 4 diff debt collectors going after same old debt, which is beyond the statute of limitations.I dont even know how to complain to Consumer Credit Collection Board, if I dont have an account number from Portfolio.I was told to do nothing unless they go to court; anyone else have any ideas??
@cate Thank the Lord! This info is music to my ears ~ I pray that the new FCA will clean house & make all these SNAKES (Portfolio, LVNV Funding, Nationwide Credit... just 2 name a few) Wither Away ~ NEVER TO RETURN AGAIN!
Not crooks in the sense that they are rob the bank or break into your house type crooks but more like sleazeballs who buy up junk debt (debt long ago charged off or sold off) in lots for pennies of what they are worth . They then use scare tactics and intimidation to try and scare people into paying some or or all of the debt . They are barely legal have been sued many times in the past . They have no power to collect a debt because 9 times out 0f ten they don't have the original debt just who the original creditor was and an account number . They rely on peoples fears but dont even have any power only words to enforce a years old debt . They still call me on debts my ex wife ran up in 1997 and i have been divorced since 2000 . The call go to my house phone that never gets answered so they can call all they want . Just don't bother with them block them of forward their number but keep in mind they have hundreds of different numbers ask anyone who knows them and Midland Credit Management . both belly scraping pond scum
I don't know what state you live in, but most states have a consumer protection agency. In Pennsylvania it is within the office of the attorney general. If you write to them, giving the story of what is going on, I have found they will write to Portfolio and demand that certain things happen: 1) they must identify themselves in caller ID, no matter which one of their hundreds of numbers they are calling from; 2) they may not call more than twice in any given day, and of course, must call between 8 AM and 9PM. Finally, they must answer your questions, in writing, regarding the so-called debt -- who it is to, what year it is from, the account number, and whether they can verify it is indeed your debt. In my case, they had to admit, in writing that the thing was from 1997, that they bought it in 2001, and that it could not be verified. These vermin buy huge printouts from banks and credit card companies listing debts that the banks have already gotten a generous tax-write-off for, and they do not have any information on the printout legally tying you to the debt, or to whether or not it was ever settled. Your main problem, if the debt cannot be verified, and if it is also past statute in your state, is that these bottom feeders will issue you and the IRS a 1099-C for some amount hugely inflated over the actual amount of the debt, and twenty times more inflated over what they paid for it, as they buy this junk debt for pennies on the dollar. Then you have to get in touch with the Attorney general, the IRS to dispute the 1099-C, which is not hard to do, it is just a drain on your time and energy. In my case, I decided to send a letter to the Postmaster alleging mail fraud, since they sent me this phony 1099-C via the US mail.
They called my work number asking for a person with the same last name as mine, but was not me. They should not be calling me just because I have the same last name as someone. I wonder how many calls I would get if my last name was Smith or Jones??
These people are trying to tell me that my 89 year old husband has a capitol one credit card that he owes money on. He has Alzheimers, and has never had a credit card. They call four and fives times a day. I have had calls as early as 6 am and as late as 11 pm. We do not owe this, but they dont understand those words.I wish we could all get together and file a class action suit against them.
Received a call (screened) from this number shortly after viewing a "Food4Patriots" info video on the Internet. I didn't watch the entire video (you'll get flagged with a "But wait! Are you SURE you want to navigate away from this page?" message if you opt out of watching the entire video) but did go to the company's website just to learn a bit more about the company. The parent company IS based in Kentucky, which is where this number returns to, so I have no doubt the viewing the video and/or visiting the company's website and the call are related...
