one other thing, not all homes have a master en-suite, so what would you do in that case? i know some homes to only have one main bath and then a "water closet" or 1/2 bathroom. so to answer en-suite, i would not do so, because then you are left assuming that the en-suite is more important than the main bathroom. and some, smaller older homes would not have a living room and a family room. some of those older homes only have the one bathroom. but again, i don't know what answers exactly they were seeking, since we are not allowed to see our test. we can only go by what apparently the computer states is right.

Andrea,I am about to sign up for this course. I have been interested in home staging for quite some time. I believe this is definitly something I will work hard at and be good at. I was wondering now that you have passed the course and got hired, have haverhills been able to hold up their end of the bargin? Are you being paid the $24-31 an hour?

linda, i did that, i also provided proof of the conversations. i also did what other students suggested and that was to resubmit the trades people. my assignment was to get three trades people. i contacted about 80. i wrote down all the ones i called, and kept all the ones i email. and i just ended up getting 3. i had to ask for an extension to get the 3rd trades. most trades don't want to provide that info "stating they can only give references once they are hired", or my now favourite one, "i don't want to give any more info to haverhill students."i gave them proof. i did what they asked. the grade still never changed. so again, how is that fair? you are right, it's not their fault, but it's not mine either. so why should a student still be penalized for it???????they shouldn't. if i gave them proof, and if haverhill would like to call the references and ask if i called them to ask questions about the trade company, they can do that too. a letter should not prevent a student from obtaining the grade they very well deserve. especially if the other 2 trades companies responded, and the 2 people i did staging for responded, why would you doubt that i did not do the work i was required to do? if i am supposed to believe what they tell me about my lessons, my test results, then they should also believe me when i provide proof that i contacted and received the required info.college was not this hard, in college i was not ignored when i submitted work. in college i was allowed to see my work so i could see what i did wrong. and yes, correspondance schools do provide you with your test results. and no, you can't retake the test, but at least you learn from it. this is not the case here. i have still yet to know the correct answers to the test questions.

Hey Kelsey, any info on what the test was like? I didn't see all the blogs about Haverhill until after I had already signed up and started. Oh well, got to finish it now. Thanks.

fripouille,The rules are the rules and it wouldnt be fair to every other student if they marked you in a special way.technically, you didn't do what they asked. you more or less did what you wanted to do and assumed it should be ok. (they want a signed form and you are telling them to make a phone call)if you can't get a reply from email or phone, go visit like i did. i did my interviews that way and they remembered me so verifying my work was easy.haverhill needs that signed letter from the contractor as proof. any email can be manipulated but a letter sent to the business is full-proof.a lot of students want to do this course on their own terms and get mad when they miss out on marks. I would be upset if I knew other students were being given special treatment for getting passing grades. grrrrr...

Do you have any sugestion for home staging course??? What do you think would be my best option???Thanks

oregano, you don't know what you are talking about. i didn't do things my way. it did it their way!!!! they didn't ask for a signed form. and what are we children to have to ask for someone to sign our permission slip?!the assignment was to contact 3 trades and obtain info that included insurance policy, references and more. with the references we then needed to call 3 of those references and get their feed back. i did that. i let the trades people know there would be a letter sent out. i found out after i did the assignment, the trades people i spoke to were already approved trades people. i was told by kimberly to submit my emails as further proof that i did the job, the task, the lesson.i am not asking for special treatment! i stated that since it seems to happen to several students, that there should be some consideration taken with that lesson. you don't know my situation, you can't comment correctly. i know i did exactly what they wanted. i know many others did too. some people come on to this site and basically state they are better and smarter than those who did not pass. they are making assumptions. i stand my ground. and i am fighting this all the way. there are several who are behind me. why, because they are in the same position. i will state this once again. i did pass the course. i did receive my piece of paper to state that i am an acredited home stager. i did not learn anything that i didn't already know. i know the terms and conditions change, but to change to suit their needs is not right. to constantly change the rules is not fair. and i know this is what is going on. once a student starts to question the terms, the test results, the lessons and the comments made, the student is suddenly ignored and shunned. the student is then made out to be a nuisance and they are ignored. they seem to hope the student will just give up and go away, as some have. but, some of us are fighting for justice.

Truth from an actual Haverhill student (not to say that others aren't telling the truth-just letting you know my actual experience thus far)- I have just completed the 7 assignments of the Haverhill Staging Course, and this is my honest take on the whole experience, as well as an overview of what the course entails. I still need to complete the Teleclass (a class by phone-I assume this is a re-iteration of the information that I have learned, to solidify and clarify what is taught in the Home Staging Manual/Guide) and then I will write the exam. Firstly, there are 7 assignments, 3 which require you to stage 3 homes. When I initially began the program several months ago, it was stated that I could use my own home for only ONE staging assignment, so that I could exhibit a better diversity of my skills and application of staging techniques. After a couple of months, I re-inquired about using my own home for more than one staging assignment, as I was having difficulty obtaining my 3rd home to stage. I was told by Haverhill that they recognized that there were some problems with students obtaining homes to stage, and that it was now acceptable to use your own home for more than one staging assignment. It is stated in the students' "Welcome Package", that extra points will be considered for those who can obtain 3 different homes to stage. It is intended to encourage students to, at the least, try to stage other homes to show their talent and diversity to Haverhill. They also sent me "door hangers" to hang on the doors of homes that were for sale. They were sent immediately and I received them in a few days. I didn't end up using them, as I had obtained another home to stage prior to receiving them. I don't know if they would have worked, but the concept was a good idea and I appreciated any help that I could obtain. A realistic take on completion of the seven assignments would be approximately 3-4 weeks, at 40 hours a week. It takes several days to complete each home staging, and then you need to focus on the "before" and "after" write-ups, and sort through your "before" and "after" photos, to make sure that you get photos that closely mirror the same picture angle. Then, once the home staging assignments are complete, another assignment requires that you find 3 reputable tradespeople on which you can rely for completing recommendations when you are staging homes (this is a national database intended to help all accredited Haverhill Home Stagers),another assignment is to complete a brief Haverhill Mission Statement, as another is to exhibit how you would furnish empty rooms, via the use of a Floor Planner. As far as the course is concerned, it is something that is equivalent to a distance education course, where you are given all of the necessary information, but you are required to teach yourself the information, through study. The practical application takes place when you take what you have learned and apply the staging ideas and techniques to your actual home staging assignments. It is not just about cleaning and buying new things. Actually, the instructors have informed me that they prefer that I work with what is available to me, and that it is not necessary to even paint. It was suggested that if I would make a recommendation to paint a room that is too loud or vibrant or dark, that the recommendation itself is sufficient enough. They said that in real life, most people will want you to work with what they have, and that most cannot afford to do extensive renovations, repairs and upgrades. I agree with them. I think, thus far, that the course was rather comprehensive and informative. My questions and concerns were promptly addressed when I needed answers and/or clarification. I really enjoyed completing all of the assignments (with the exception of the one for tradespeople, as many companies were weary to divulge proof of insurance, etc). This assignment, in particular, was far more time consuming than I had first anticipated, due to the former reason. However, it did show me how pertinent it is to obtain this information from tradespeople, and even to insist upon obtaining it, as you need to protect yourself and your clients. If you recommend a trades person to a client to do some repairs, painting or upgrades, it is your responsibility to protect yourself and your client by calling the trade persons references, and by making sure that they have liability insurance. If a trades person does not have liability insurance, and if someone is hurt while they are completing the job, the legalities can fall back on either the person who made the recommendation, the home stager, or on the home owner. Haverhill has shown me that it is imperative to protect myself, as well as the company (if I become gainfully employed by them), if you are working as a home stager. It's something small, but it is something to which I wouldn't have given any thought if it weren't for the completion of this assignment. I am waiting for my assignments to be graded and will update you on my progress through the entire process. I can truly say that although the course is more time consuming than disclosed, it was satisfying for me, and I deem that that the information I learned is adequate to obtaining a certificate in Home Staging. I also read many books on Home Staging, and the principals of staging were echoed throughout all of the literature. The difference between taking this course and just purchasing a couple of books that divulge the same information? You have to apply what you learn about home staging, by completing the assignments. You are a certified stager with a certificate, when the course is complete, and if you decide to start your own home staging business, then you have a start on your portfolio to share with potential clients. The only area that is lacking in this course, is the fact that there is little information for starting your own staging business. There is verbal information and support that you can obtain from the instructor, but there is no literature on which to rely in the course itself. What I have stated here is exclusively my opinion, and it is not meant to be a debate, but rather of my experience of the Haverhill Home Staging course, thus far. At this point, I would recommend this course for anyone who REALLY WANTS to be a home stager, either for Haverhill or for themselves. You do have to be willing to do some hard work. I have 5 years of university under my belt, and I thought that it was a reasonable amount of work for an average person, but for someone who really WANTS to do this for a living. It should be noted that if you don't really have an eye for design, it may not be suitable for you. I know people who are really naturally gifted in this area, and I also know many who cannot learn how to do this type of work (friends and family have said that they would just not be able to do it because they didn't have the "eye" for it). It's like anything else; you have to have at least a little bit of talent in this particular area, or else you may find this course overwhelming. Do your research. Ask yourself what you want from this course. For people who want fast money and a good paying job, but nothing more, you may find this course too difficult if you really don't have interest in the job itself. If you do love interior design, decorating and home staging, have time to properly devote to the assignment completion, and really want this for a career, then I would encourage it. It is an informative course, and I loved staging the homes!!! Again, I will keep you posted, and for those that really want some honest answers, I will give them to the best of my ability. I will post again when I receive my marks to attest to the fairness of the instructors in their marking system (I am a certified teacher so I can reasonably attest to fairness of the grading system)...I am anticipating, based on the outcome of my assignments and my previous experience with flipping homes and decorating, that I did very well. I closely studied the information and criteria and deem that I have met at least MOST of the criteria and have applied most, if not all, the proper staging techniques. I will keep you all informed. All the best to each of you! Good luck in your endeavours, whatever they may be!

fripouille, dont tell me I am wrong because I'm not. you are not allowed to submit trades that are already submitted. there is a search tool to find out if a trade is already used and if so, you have to use another one. you are like everyone else, you went to the first page of each section of the phone book and contacted the same companies already used.also, you dont have to bring the letter to have it signed, haverhill send the letter to them asking them to confirm you interviewed them. if you didnt interview them, they dont know what the letter is for and they dont send it back, thus no credit.im so sick of people thinking they know everything (I quote you: this course taught me nothing i didnt already know) and that they dont need to do the work they're supposed to do because they are smarter than the rest of the world.which is what this comes down to.

I have a student ID number and am awaiting response from Haverhill now regarding ridiculously low grades and a test that is equally ridiculous. I'll be posting more after their response. Funny, I posted my concerns to them yesterday and also requested to re-take the test, they were able to grant me the re-test, but haven't responded to my email questions/concern yet. Keep watching, if I get scammed and don't get a refund and/or certificate, I'm going to really set some newspapers/media on fire.
