My wife received 2 calls from some woman from 905-671-4151, appearantly looking for my nephew. After the first call, I checked the # on Canada411 and found it was MJR Collection Services in Mississauga, so I advised my wife that if they call again, tell them you have no clue where the nephew is. (I have not seen him in over 9 years and my wife has never met him!), and that we don't want them calling here again. Sure enough they called again and they were told not to call back. Yesterday morning I took a call coming from that same # and the woman asked for (my nephew). I said,"Look, you people have been asked nicely not to bother us. I have not seen him in over 9 years and you have been told that! So stop harassing us! Any further calls will be considered harassment and you will be hearing from my lawyer....Got it?? Write it down!! Tell all your friends. DON'T CALL HERE AGAIN!!" and then I hung up. In less than 5 seconds the phone rings again....call display showing the same #. I answer the phone, "What????" She says to me, "Is that they way you answer your phone? What?I says, "Only when I am being harrassed! What part of our conversation did you not understand??" She says, "Don't you try and tell me you dont know him..." I cut her off and told her I never said that but reitterated that I've not seen him in 9 years and that I don't know where he is and really don't care where he is. She starts in about how he's my brothers' son and.....blah blah! By this time I had already removed the phone from my ear, and held it in front of me, told her to 'f'-off and hung up the phone. Another 5 seconds go by and the phone rings again.....same #!! Guess she had second thoughts because it only rang twice, then went silent. Too bad really because I had a pen and paper with me and wanted to get her name and her supervisors name and the name of the company she works for...(and by law she has to give that info) I wanted to know who to name in the suit. We then put a call-block on our phone for that #.

Have started to receive a number of calls from this number. I answer, they don't, they just listen until I hang up. No messages left either when I'm unable to pick up. Suspicious, shoddy and unprofessional behaviour for what is supposed to be MJR Capital or MJR Collections? When I called their number to get an explanation, it just rings and rings, and apparently their voicemail box is full. Trying to contact them via their website is also unsuccessful...one field asks for a US telephone number...which I don't have ! and did I mention that I have $0 debt !!! Intuition tells me this is one company our Canadian agencies should be keeping a close eye on.

I keep getting this call from a Company called MJR. When i pick up they tell me to hold while i am being transferred. All I get is an answereing machine that is too ful to leave a message. Iwould appreciate if they would stop calling. They Must have called a total of 10 times.Thanks

These people keep calling MY CELL PHONE!!!!! MJR Collections regarding an old cable bill from cogeco. I had cogeco home phone service along with cable and highspeed...with NOOOOOO exageration for 6 months In that 6 months my phone worked for 7 days...today it worked...for the next 9-10 it didn't. I would call them and request it to be fixed and was given exuse after exuse...THEY CUT MY PHONE OFF OVER $6.00 seriously!!!! Then cut off my highspeed 2 days later. Now this MJR collections keeps calling my cell phone I explained to them why the bill wasn't paid ...I really don't think I should have to pay for a service that I didn't get to use in the 6 months I had it when it's the fault of the company for not fixing the problem. They tell me I have to pay it and wouldn't you know it...the $6.00 I had owed is according to MJR is now $350.00 and collecting interest!...anyway I've stopped answering my cell phone everytime it rings I feel sick they don't stop...they are extreamly rude and constantly threat to drag you to court...unfortunately for them I know a little regarding debt...TIP FOR YOU ALL: NO company in their right minds would even consider actually taking you to court over a debt under $3000.00 it's not worth their time and would cost them wayyyyy more then the debt...they will threat it...but it really holds no ground!

Dennis, you make some good points, but unfortunately they've been made up in your head. Majority of companies have in the contract "Company XXXX or its agents" or something to that effect. The collection agency is considered one of the company's agents. Hence, they could sue you. Some others have written that the agency would not sue unless it was a certain amount. I'm not sure about that, but I'm pretty sure with the amount of debt the agency assumes that they would have a team just working on small claims lawsuits. The agency can also add costs to the amount owed so the argument that they would spend more is moot. If one agent went to small claims to file a claim every day, what difference would it make him/her to file 20 or 30? They're already there.Lastly, it is not only the govt that has the right to garnish wages. The courts can issue a garnishment after a finding against you. Added to the garnishment are interest charges as well. I only know this because I have successfully sued a tenant and got back what was owed to me as well as the costs of suing him. As for the agency using small claims as a threat; they might be but taking the chance that that's all it is could end up costing you more. I'm not a collector, I came upon this site after receiving a call a few weeks ago. Explained I just received my number and I'm not the person they're looking for. Haven't had a call since. Be kind and more than likely the person on the other end will reciprocate.

Hello All, I find these posts disturbing. What I don’t understand is how you people can sit there writing all these post to complain about collection agencies? Why are you in one in the first place? If someone owed you money and you called to ask where it was and they said they weren’t paying you, what would you do or say? Common people, take responsibility for YOUR actions, instead of blaming collection agencies, blame the person who got you into this mess…YOURSELF!!! Where do you think the world would be if nobody paid their bills? We would all be screwed. It’s inevitable that we all have to go to work and pay our bills. The longer it takes for you to accept that the longer you will be in debt and if cooperate with them you will have a pleasant experience. So to everyone who is a chronic complainer with Collection agencies, get off your [***], get a job and pay your bills then you won’t have collections calling you, it’s a simple as that. Let’s say it again shall we…if you want them to stop calling, you pay your bill. Yes it’s that simple!!! You too could be out of debt if you follow the simple instructions…to pay your bill. And for those who cannot afford to pay it in full, because we all know not everyone is a deadbeat and there are actually people out there who have hit a hard spot, that’s when you would make a payment arrangement with your collector. We are all human and that is their job, have some respect!

I have got sickie over these people calling over and over and over ,I found out if you have anything in a collections it could be a bank over draft of $25.00 or any amount,and they buy the debt and gain 80% of money recovered themselves the reason they call me is a bank I used Charged me $25.00 for an overdraft I did not know this and now it is $200.00 no letter from the bank .One Day when I got a call from these people I was mad because the bank never said anything. the next day I went to the bank I went to pay the $25.00 they told me it was to late and sent it into collecting file .I phoned the police and they told me to tell the people who were bother me never call me again and have them to send me a registered letter if they do not you can have them charged with harassment as long has you keep a record of the calls on a call answer or record the nuber of times a day they call .this mounth alone they call everyday 8 times and the lady at they other end is only doing her job. her name is Joy so she says.

You try and make collection agencies seem so terrible, when it’s the majority of you who are at fault. I find it extremely amusing how all of you find the time to write hundreds of angry posts about some hard working decent people doing their jobs. When its apparent you all either don’t have jobs or do and just don’t pay your bills. Which is disgusting either way. (unless there are special circumstances) . DO NOT be angry at some one else because of your own irresponsibility, stupidity, or plain old laziness. Or inability to pay your bills. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Stop whining and man up why don’t you?! And maybe if you show some respect you will get some. Ever think about that? Yuck…… find something more constructive to do instead of bashing those you envy.

They are RUDE! They called me a liar when I said I didn't know anybody by the name they were calling for.I have been receiving calls for about a year and it doesn't matter how many times I tell them, they keep calling - every day!I finally found this local number to call them - and guess what - their mailbox is full - probably of people complaining!

I agree with you in what you are saying people run into hard times in there lives and have a hard time paying some of there bills but what people are complaining about is M.J.R'S tactics, they are realy persnally rude and they call you bad names now how professional is that,if i owed money i would work things out with them but they are all or nothing type of peopleand since they can't have it all they get nothing,calling me names is not going to get you anywhere with me,beg borrow or steal and call 10 times a day f++k off.I all so know people have to get off there [***] and pay there bill's but they have to have people with a little bit of understanding and if people do not know the law let me tell you a secret as long as you make an effort to pay $5 bucks a month they cannot refuse it and tell them they are being taped so they know they can't refuse it i know that i did it many years ago and the phone stopped and then when i got on my feet again i paid them off so relax people just make the effort and they can't do nothing as for the rest of you get a job!!!!!
