If you have call block...*67, and if you have time, call them all day long and swear at them waste their time or just call them names. What are they going to do? Call the cops? I am having the same issues right now with CTC and this MJR. I just received papers from them saying they are from small claims court and they are taking me to court, I am still making the payments to CTC and they are accepting. You would think I would have at least received some notice from them prior to this as I think I have received calls but I have a call block on my phone which prevents unwanted calls. I will be calling him tomorrow to find out about this small claims court papers, as I did contact a real lawyer today and they advised me to contact the court where he filed the claim and provide them with the claim number on the top of the form. If it is a valid form they will give me the information I need to make my defence. But if they don't have anything on file they will also direct me to an office of the court who will provide me with the information I need to file a claim against them as they are not allowed to send out false claims. Maybe you should call the court house he filed it with and see if that claim number is valid.
No collection agency in Ontario who ever consider going to court if/ If the debtor is located in Western Canada. Not for all the tea in China, can you imagine the costs and even if they win there is no guarantee they will ever collect, back to the courts again Boys!Being Poor, out of work, sick, on maternity leave, hit by a car, hit by a train, being kidnapped by wild sexed crazed nuns does not constitute as a crime.The only body that can and will impose penalties and garnishing of wages is the Federal Revenue of Canada. All collection agencies are third party that purchased delinquent accounts for a small price 10-15 cents to a dollar, then in turn try to collect the whole amount owing. Good luck!The down fall, is for the next 7years your credit rating would be poor. Collection agencies may call you everyday but they have to. It's true, they buy the debt for 10 cents to the dollar, but the company that YOU borrowed the money from agreed to that deal. The debt was already considered old and the company YOU borrowed from already lost it. If it weren't for collection agencies (within the creditor and as third parties), what would stop everyone from racking up credit card bills and not paying them?The point is, everyone has to pay their bills. I work at an agency and I don't get let off the hook like all of the thousands, probably millions of accounts we have. I haven't worked for 2 years before this job so trust me I know what it's like not to work. But any amount from 300 to 20,000 is normal to see, and every one is not fair. I was taught to pay everything immediately and to never let debt be unpaid let alone accumulate. And they're going to yell at me for I'm doing my job, getting off my [***] and getting paid to get them to pay back the money they stole? They say we're criminally harassing, but they're criminals that we're hired to do anything to get to pay. The phone is the 2nd least invasive form of communication. One click and they're gone. There are many ways around getting to talk to us. We have to make the most of the time we actually speak to the right person on the phone. I don't agree with rude collectors at all, but 75% of the time they are treated like [***] by the broke [***] people they're calling. Also, lying that it's the wrong number is only lying to yourself. Are you going to refuse calls from everyone who calls for the rest of your life? What a loser!!!Bottom line, collection agencies within companies and as third parties are NEEDED. You can complain about capitalism all you want, but face the world we live in today and stop thinking you can get away with money you stole that probably paid for the couch ur sitting on and the tv ur staring at while MJR calls and yells at you!
I just wish they stopped calling and asking for somone that do not live here or have this number (I have the same number for over 15 years) I have tried over and over to tell MJR I don't have or know anyone with the name they asking for.So how do you stop them from calling almost every day???

Your argument is "just pay the bill" which is nice in theory, but if you read most of these complaints, these people aren't saying "I dont want to pay, yay being in debt!" they're in some cases perfectly willing to set up a payment plan, only to be given 5 hours to somehow come up with $6000 (or whatever their total owing is) and I can assure you, not a single person who's gotten themselves into a debt situation has more than $20 in their chequing account, it's a scare tactic, one used by cliche thugs in gangster movies. One guy even sent in a void cheque for weekly withdrawls, but had it sent back. So none of these people are saying they dont want to pay, they're saying this company uses illegal, immoral, crude and tactics, and whats most galling is they stick to this behaviour regardless if the debtor is straight up willing to pay it. Your suggestion "make a payment arrangement" doesn't cut it, because again, people are perfectly willing to do it, even something fiscally difficult like $100 a week, but they're being told "Pay nowor else and after this call i'm going to call ." your suggestion that these people have put themselves in this position doesn't work either, because a majority of the postings here are from people who are getting these calls when they shouldn't be: family members who've had their phone number used to register for something by the debtor, wrong numbers, new tenants where a debtor once lived, employers who couldn't give a rat's a$$ anyhow, and on and on...So your arguments don't hold any water, as the complaints here are not "I don't want to pay" in fact it's the clear opposite. Neither is it "It's someone else's fault." almost every posting starts with an admission that the person fell behind on their bill and wants to work it out. And that is the problem, and why all these complaints are not disturbing because of your allegation that these people are deadbeats, they're disturbing because of their content; this MJR company is a joke (was gonna say scary but that's not true, thats the image they want to project, but if you dont your research you can correct the information asymmetry that they're thriving on.)
ILLEGAL DEBT COLLECTORS ARE NOT NEEDED! There is a HUGE DIFFERENCE between collecting legitimate debts and COLLECTING DEBTS THEY CANNOT PROVE ARE VALID AND OWED. THIS COLLECTOR FALLS UNDER THE ILLEGAL DEBT COLLECTOR CATEGORYIf they were COLLECTING VALID accounts - there is NO NEED TO BREAK LAWS TO DO IT. ITS THE JINK DEBT BUYERS THAT ARE THE PROBLEM - when they BUY WORTHLESS OLD LEGALLY UNCOLLECTABLE debt - TO MAKE THEIR OWN PROFITS AT THE EXPENSE OF THOSE WHO DO NOT OWE IT.
