Found a message from "P & A Associates" on answering machine - same "have been trying to reach you, urgent you call back today". When I did a search for the company name, found one with the 979 area code in Irvine. ( a geological firm) But not this number. Tried a search for the number, and voila! I am but the last in a line of irritated folks who have never heard of these people. Also had a call a couple of days ago asking for a relative, and when I politely asked for their name and number( to pass on a message, sorry, I do not give out people's numbers to voices on the telephone!), was asked who I was. Excuse, me! You called my number. Then he got rude, and we hung up. Same folks??Thanks to everyone for confirming that there's no reason to call back!

Atlas Recovery is based in Indiana

Received a call from this number requesting that I call back. I did and they did have the name and information from a creditor. However, when I requested that they give me their mailing address they refused unless I told them what I intended to send. (I was going to send them a Cease and Desist Letter). After repeated requests to give me the mailing address, the person I was speaking to became rude and frustrated and hung up on me. I thought, that by law, a debt collector had to provide that information when requested.

Thanks for all the info everybody. I'm going to get a police whistle and blow the daylights out of it in the phone next time somebody from this # calls. ;)

Okay talk about the run around. They ARE legit, unfortunately.An old bank account said that I still owed them something from 3 years ago. They sold my account balance to a collections agency 7 months ago.. when then sold it to another agency, who outsourced it to yet another which happens to be Atlas. I never got anything in the mail about it and I have only received one phone call stating that they have been trying to reach me multiple time ( nope ) I called the bank about my account that I had PAID but since they sold it, they no longer have any information on it AT ALL. So basically it comes down to I'm screwed and I owe some outrageous amount but if I pay by the end of the month its 3 times less than if I try to fight it. I have no proof of paying it to the bank, over 3 years ago, and they have no proof either. So it's either pay or have my SSN red flagged for 7 years, which means no bank accounts, no credit cards, not auto financing ect... and sometime in the next few years I am planning on buying a house. So [***] me, right?

They just left a horrible message on my daughters phone and then when I called them back and told them never to call again they yelled at me, called me names and hung up on me. Then I called back and told me I was out of line and I barely said anything. They had the wrong number but they are two of the worst humans on the planet. I feel sorry for them, You can't be a nasty person for long before it catches up with you. They will have a really hard life. Probably already do.

I called my old bank, who did say they sold it to one company, United Credit Recovery, which I called, who told me who they sold it to Platinum Holding, and I called that company as well, who stated that Atlas is another office under them. I traced the footsteps from the source to figure out their legitimacy. Now, I am not saying all of your calls are legit, other companies are sold your information somehow and open false accounts in your name. I have been a victim of that before. So figure out what they are trying to collect and call the original people you are supposedly in debt with first before agreeing to anything.

this caller represented to me that a person I know had used me as a reference as if the person known to me was coming into a job or something positive and the caller was merely employed as a fact checker of sorts while all the time the caller was a collection agency.

I have received several phone calls from 1-949-797-7100 asking about a Nicola Depace, assuming this person is female. He is not. He is an Italian. But this is beside the point. He apparently listed me as an "alternate contact" on some credit or loan application. I am assuming he has defaulted, but have no way of knowing because he moved from my condo complex two years ago and has not been heard from since. I resent his using my name without my permission and I resent hearing from this phone number time and again.
