I understand how you feel, as my Mom has Alzheimers. One thing I heard may work:Find someone whose phone has been disconnected.Call that person, and tape record those three tones you hear, and then put them on your answering machine, followed by your regular message. Supposedly the computers, and telemarketers. who call, will hear those tones, figure the phone is disconnected and then take your Mom's name off the list. One thing I also did was to get my Mom an email address , and then email all the charities, etc. who send her begging letters and call her and tell them to take her name off their mailing and calling lists. I asked for one email to say they will respect her wishes, and then I stated any further contact will be dealt with by her attorney,(and listed his name and address). The number of calls she is getting has gone way down! Hope this helps you too. May God bless you and your Mom.
As you can tell from the total and complete dissfunctional and thieving government FCC.GOV doesn't work, in fact they probably sell your number to more spammers.
Caller ID says "9856354267" (The default format is (xxx) xxx xxxx; so they spoofed the caller ID to look vanilla but have failed). They leave no message.I call back after hours (using *67 to block my number). Their outgpong message iis, "Hello, you've reached MDS communications. We're a telephone fundraising company that specializes in calling for nationally recognized charities, non-profit organizations, and political committees. Please, accept our apology if you do not wish to be called particularly if you have signed up for the national do-not-call list. As you already know fundraising calls are exempt from national do-not-call lists, and many people who have signed up in order to block commercial calls still like getting calls from their favorite charities. If you'd like to receive a call back from us, please, press 1. If you'd like to be added to our do-not-call list, please, press 2." (I never use a firm's do-not-call list as it can actually make things worse).I haven't been called from this number in six months. Ditto for a bunch of other political phone numbers. So, in my case, they are likely either calling for (or pretending to call for) a political campaign. In either case, I don't respond to phone solicitations.
Caller ID said Out of Area, but I answered. Asked for my aunt, who has Alzheimer's -- I said she was deceased (she's not, but I'm trying to get her off lists, my unlisted number never got these calls until I had to take over her affairs and make her phone number my phone number. All of these scam artists targeting the elderly and those with dementia -- someone who is supposed to keep such info confidential is obviously making money selling lists of their names, they should only burn in hell). He didn't even pause when I said she was deceased, said he was from St. Jude's Children's Hospital, the nerve of them, I cut him off and said, we deal directly with St. Jude's, do not call this number again, and the I heard him sort of stammering and I disconnected the call. Number called back three hours later, I clicked answer and the clicked off. When is the government going to do something about this? Oh, and by the way, Hawaii is the president's home state, so why don't you try prunes?
This number will not quit calling my answering machine but never leaves a message. The ringing woke up my entire family last night.
Charities are one of several types of calls that are exempt from the Do Not Call list, In fact, only sales calls from companies that you have not done business with for the past 18 months are required to honor that list. However, other types of solicitors are supposed to remove you from their calling list when you ask to be placed on their internal Do Not Call list. Failure to do so can can be actionable by you but it's a pain to jump through all the hoops. I believe you can report those who fail to honor your request to be removed from their calling list to the FCC. Sales call go to the DNC complaint website or phone number.
Best investment I've ever made is a call blocker from Amazon. It has 5000 known scam numbers but of course new ones develop every day. Just hit the big red button and...wham. They are blocked. My calls have dwindled to about 4 a week now. Silence is golden! In a month I've had only 22 calls that it did not block...but they are now!
