same thing on our latest phone bill....Verizon doesn't seem to care. Certainly wasn't from using directory assistance. We're waiting for a Supervisor to call us back to get to the bottom of this, since the other 5-6 reps we talked to couldn't help us. Think we'll get a call? Probably end up switching to another provider.
Call 1800 731-777 which is the OAN service billing number. Tell the to place a "block" on your phone to restrict any future calls or charges from this number. You are right, this is a big scam. We never even called the number and our charge was $7.78.
$7.68 scam. Found a number for billing questions regarding this on my ATT bill for ILD Teleservices, 1-800-433-4518, which is a 3rd party billing service for 101 515-8000, a directory service which we did not use.Shelly, at that 800 number, said she would process a credit to ATT for me and block any further billing from the fraud to us.Also, I then called ATT to report the problem, and they gave me an immediate credit.
This crow is tasting pretty good...Verizon did call us back and they did take the call off our bill, along with "Steve" helping with us with a few other concerns. I will stick with Verizon, they have renewed my faith in them. Thanks Steve at Verizon.
I repair equipment at a hospital. My director got a message to call 800 497-1542 about some issues with the hospital. I call it, and I get the same exact message as referenced above, to call this 10 15 15 8000, or a 704 555-1212, plus connection charges. Sheesh, what a scam! At least it's not a redirect to a call in a/c 809 !!
I got a call from someone named "Betty Moore" asking for travel info. (I am a travel agent). She called from 800-726-2043 and kept me on the phone for 10 minutes. when finished, she refused to give me her number and suddenly seemed spooked. I got it off my caller ID. When I call it back it says it has new number 10 15 15 8000. So I googled that and found this information blog.
Very good & helpful info, more than OAN or Verizon could/would provide me with, a $7.69 charge appeared on my latest verizon bill..when verizon was called and after being on hold for 20 minutes I was simply told I had to contact OAN directly..I did and OAN could not give me any info to validate this charge..other than OAN is a "clearing house" for 800 calls..well if your calling an 800 your calling a toll free # not a number that charges $5.49 a minute without your knowledge! I reported OAN to FTC.
I tried calling to get a part for my BBQ grill and was told that they had a new national number 101-515-8000. I was billed for $7.14 for directory assistance by IDL. Last month I was billed for $14.95 by IDL for a voice mail service that I knew nothing about and received credit for this month after calling to complain. I will have to make another complaint call.
Hi there,I just read you note on getting charge by OAN. I did too, just got off the phone with them and they said they would take the charge off. My question is, did you ever file a fraud with the FCC? If so, how did you go about it? I would appreciate if you could tell me.Thank you,Margaret
