Citibank calling with regards to my Sears credit card. I had bought a rather expensive item and they were just calling to see if it was actually me spending the money. Yes it was. Since I don't usually spend this many dollars using my Sears card, they found it unusual and thought it might be fraud. Totally legit. I called them back and told them it was me who used the card and I told them the amount and which Sears I was at. At no time did they ask for my credit card number, only the case number. I'm glad CitiBank red-flags this sort of thing to keep us safe. This time it was me spending the money but what if it hadn't been me? Great feature to have...a credit card company that monitors possible fraud.
I activated my beat buy card yesterday and also made a purchase. The call I received was from the fraud department making sure that I was the one that made the purchase. I didn't call back this number, I called the number on the back of my card.
I didn't call the 855 number, but instead called a different Citibank number and was eventually transferred to their fraud department. After asking for the 4 digit reference number and confirming my identity, they explained that to help prevent identity theft with a new credit card application, they block the card and call the applicant to confirm they made an application . They unblocked the card, said it will arrive in about 1 week, and provided activation instructions. Although suspicious, the call from 210-677-1346 was legitimate.
This is legit! Thinking this was a scam call, I started out by calling Sears with a number I have and going thru that channel rather than the number I was given to be sure I got the same results. I did. They had a hold put on my account until the attempted charges could be identified. Sure enough my card had been compromised.
Caller had foreign accent calling about fraudulent charges on my acct. Sounded fishy so I called my credit card company number on back of card. It was a legitimate call. Someone tried to use my acct in Maryland. I live in KY.
Just got a call from this phone number. I never answer for numbers I don't recognize, so I let the machine take it. In his voice message, he claimed to be calling regarding my, and I quote, "Sears--uh--Best Buy account." I have neither a Sears nor a Best Buy card. Guy sounded like a crock trying to sound official. Very obviously a fraud.
