it's legit firm. i've used them to verify potential employees before as well. they are not permitted to leave VM's at company numbers.. no i don't work for them, so many skeptics! when they do leave message, you even have option of verifying by email..
I was told by a friend seeking a new job that I would get a call from this company. It is Sterling information systems.Yes the caller sounded indian. Many of these types of comanys are outsourced and headquartered in India and othe locations outside the USA. She only asked questions pertaining to my friends capabilities and how long I knew him and so on.They were very respectful and never asked questions of a security related nature as in SSN etc.The fact that he forewarned me the call was coming allayed any fear I had of a scam and I would not have supplied any known super personal security information had they asked anyway.PSHe got the job☺♫Ric♫
Caller with very thick accent called asking for the owner of the company by name. We have a voice mail box for calls that we have deemed to be solicitation and he was transferred to that mailbox. They called back and said it wasn't a solicitation call, but he refused to state what his call was in reference to. I told him he had to either leave a message or not to bother to call back as the owner would not accept any calls without knowing what the call was in reference to. He left a message, wanting to verify employment of an employee who worked here 3 years ago. Left information for a email. Emailed them and told them we would not verify ANY employment over the phone and to fax a request. Don't call the owner of a company, call the HR Department for goodness sake!!!!
This company has called me also. They aren't very professional for a so called 'legit' company. I get calls from companies wanting to verify a person's employment, I always direct them to the proper department and time to call without a problem. But this caller kept asking questions that I told him I was not authorized to answer, nor did I have the the information. Yet he continued to ask the questions and then asked me to hold. When I hung up they called back three more times. As if my answer was going to change.
Keep getting calls from this number. I cannot understand what they are saying, except employment verification. They leave at least 2 messages a day. They have called early in the morning also.
I received multiple calls from this number today (1-212-736-5100). I did not answer and they did not leave a message until about the 4th call. After hearing the message, from Sterling, I knew exactly what it was for. One of our previous employees has been job searching and she told me that she used our company info for a reference/job history. I called the number back (1-800-899-2272) and used the file number from the voicemail message that they asked me to reference. it was quick and simple. They did not ask for anything too personal. They gave ME the persons name and asked if they were employed here and during the dates that she had listed. I said "yes" and then they asked for my name and position with the company.
I work in Human Resources for a large firm with offices around the country. We utilize Sterling InfoSystems to conduct background checks for all new hires. I have heard these complaints from many of our candidates and am now in the process of reviewing alternate vendors for our pre-employment screening. The biggest complaints we receive are communication issues and aggressive tactics employed by their reps.Sterling is definitely a legitimate business, but I do wonder how long they can stay in business with the poor customer service ang basically rude representatives.
they also mess up court records i had a case that was dismissed and they reported it as guilty
It is a legit call but also bothersome because they won't give you any real information. (read of a script and struggle with english) One of my employees had applied for a new apartment and they used this company to perform the credit check. Problem was, I couldn't get the person on the phone to tell me who requested the check. I confirmed the employment history of my employee but would not provide them with his title or salary. I told my employee that the apartment complex can call me directly if they want that info.
They called our cs line pretending that our hr manager called them and asked that the call be returned but the person did not leave a name. Sure. If someone from our office had called, we are professional enough to leave a name and administrative office phone number. He claimed it was not a solicitation yet they obviously found the number online since this is not a number used for any hr tasks.
