Just wanted to add, I had received an eerily similar email in relation to yours. It was through Craig's list. I sure hope no one falls for this. :S "Hello,Thanks for getting back to me, just so you know I'm okay with the condition and the price, I'm ready for its purchase and I'm willing to add an extra $20 so as to have it kept in my favor. My form of payment will be by Check and it will be send via UPS 1-2days delivery. I'll be responsible for the pick-up and the movers/pick up money will be included in your payment so as to avoid delay and to enable movers to schedule an appropriate time for the pick-up at your location after the check is been cashed as I have other properties to be moved alongside yours. I would have really loved to come for the viewing but due to my work frame it just won't fit in my schedule but more pictures will be deeply appreciated. Kindly get back to me with your full name, address, and your cell and land line so as to make out the payment to you ASAP. Many thanksBirgitta Frisk"
Got the exact same emails from Maria. Thanks to everyone here for alerting me of the scam! The out of area code tipped me off and decided to google her number. Selling crap on Craigslist is becoming more and more of a bother because of these scammers. Great concept - but people are taking advantage!
Cindy = John/Eva/MariaWhy would you put your email & phone in a forum like this one otherwise?
I got the same message as all of you:Hello,it is me Kelsey thanks for getting back to me i want to buy this but the only way i can pay you is via a Bank Certified Check that i would mail to you using the FedEx overnight delivery,To make sure that everything goes smoothly i would wait for the check to clear before the pickup is done, I would be responsible for the pickup and it would be done by the movers and their payment would be included in the check i mail to you and this is all due to my disability (am deaf) and it makes it hard for me deal with this and it makes the transaction better and quicker.I know you were not expecting this and I would have loved to come for the viewing but i cant I really want it and am offering an extra $50 for you to delete the posting to show i want it as i am just settling into my new house i want good deals to furnish the apartment i stay in.if you are okay with this please send me pictures and get back to me with the followingYour Full nameYour Physical address (as FedEx does not deliver to P.oboxes)I await your response . thank you and stay blessedKelsey Louise
JOE I received the same e-mail from a CL ad. Did you actually send them info? since you received the check? what happened after you reported it? I wonder if these people are id theft people :S
Since this is the end of the thread, just adding that I, too, got the exact same email from "Eva Knight" using a "...@wikizplc.com" email in response to a "big ticket" craigslist item. I use the cincinnati.craigslist.com site (it covers the KY/OH/IN tri-state area, so I'm not giving away my "position").I smelled a rat, but I responded "politely"... "I cannot accept a check, nor can I accept responsibility for paying movers on your behalf. I will not take down the ad, but if someone else expresses an interest in the item, I will notify you promptly. When you return to town, we can arrange to meet and take care of payment at that time."No response. So, I googled the email address & found this thread. (THANKS!!)I sent a second response: "I googled your email & know you are a scam artist. You have been reported to the authorities. Have a nice day!" No response. Yet...LOL!
I was contacted by "John Alan". The letter was almost verbatim what has already been posted here. He sent a couple more to follow up but I was increasingly suspicious and called my son, who works for the FBI in fraud. He knew right away it was a scam and said I should go the FBI website and report it. And so I shall. We all should.
I got the same message here in Anchorage Alaska. I responded without checking the number first...duh! I got another email from them "thank you for responding..." The email address is v.point@yahoo.com from View Point
I got the exact same email today. I didn't give "Eva Knight" any info. But she does have my fist name and telephone number. Is that bad? They can't do anything with just my first name and telephone number, can they?
I just got scammed by Jennifer Garcia. Here is what she wrote:Hi, This is Jenny.thanks for getting back to me i want to buy this but the only way i can pay you is via a Bank Certified Check that i would mail to you using the FedEx overnight delivery, To make sure that everything goes smoothly i would wait for the check to clear before the pickup is done, I would be responsible for the pickup and it would be done by the movers and their payment would be included in the check i mail to you and this is all due to my disability (am deaf) and it makes it hard for me deal with this and it makes the transaction better and quicker. Here is my reply to her:You said in the letter to send you pictures. What pictures? I posted 4 pics already? can you tell me what more would you like to see or know?
