This "police protective fund" called my home 7:31 pm March 29, 2007, i did not answer. I am on DO NOT call list. Obviously a SCAM.
I got a similar phone call from Police Protection #301-762-6650 on March 25, @2:00 pm. I did ask the gentleman's name. but cannot recall if it was John Farrell. I asked him if he is affiliated with the Silver Spring police dept. He said "No". He is associated with the police dept. of the entire state of Maryland. He asked for a commitment of donation from $20. to $100. I told him to send me the information or brochure so that my husband & I can decide what we want to do. He kept wanting to send me a confirmation and wanted to verify our address. His insistent bothered me. I kept telling him to send me the information. He abruptly hung up the phone. I thought such act as extremely rude. Now I found out I am not the only one who received such a call. I hope Montgomery County authority governing agent will seriously look into this situation and post warnings to the citizens.
He doesn't live in that address anymore, he sold the house in 2006 etc....but looks like he is keeping the number, unless some got his number and John H. Farrel doesn't have anything to do with this scam.
Just received a call from Police Protecti, did not answer it, my answering machine picked up and they immediately hung up.
Just had a call from this number. I am sick of these phony charities. I called the Montgomery County Police to ask if/why they don't provide insurance/enough insurance to their officers for disablity and death. Lord knows they have a strong enough union - they can't get them to pay their own speeding tickets or obey the traffic laws...so surely the union must get them adequate benefits. I was told that they do have good benefits and that the Montgomery County Policy do not endorse or work with these charities.Police Fund-Raisers Accused of Fraud August 30, 2006Officials in Montgomery County, Maryland, a Washington, DC suburb, are accusing a charity allegedly raising money for police officers with fraud. The Police Protective Fund denies the allegation."Just as with every other area of charitable giving, the scam artists have found a way to muddy the waters and divert money away from legitimate law enforcement charities," said Montgomery Executive Douglas M. Duncan.Duncan says The Police Protective Fund uses telemarketers to raise money for the charity, which is supposed to help police officers. However, he says the fund's tax filings and other documents show it spent most of its budget on fundraising and salaries. Some of its officials made more than $110,000 a year, while the company used telemarketing firms to solicit donations, according to the documents.Duncan has asked the State of Maryland to open an investigation into the group.Fund officials told the Washington Post they are working to increase the amount of funds actually sent to support police officers. The Police Protective Fund has offices in San Antonio and Los Angeles and raises money through telemarketers nationwide. Most professional police and firefighter organizations say they never endorse or benefit from telephone solicitations and most urge consumers not to contribute.
Got a phone call today from 301-762-6650 who claimed to be soliciting funds for a "police protection fund" of some sorts. They wanted to verify my address, asking if I lived in Sometown, MD. I asked him where they were.He finally admitted he was in Rockville, MD and this was a "statewide" fund. When I wanted their address, he hung up. Googling the number brought me to this site among others warning me about this type of call.
Rec'd the call about 630 pm, hung up when I answered, caller ID gave me this number which got me to this site, I called them and got the message referenced, asking for my name and mumber. Didnt leave it
